The Associated Press reports here at the Washington Post website: Sony Corp. said Friday it will lower the price of its much-anticipated PlayStation 3 video game console, heating up the competition in the next-generation gaming war against rivals Microsoft and Nintendo.

Reuters reports here at the Washington Post website: Japan’s Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. said on Wednesday it would launch two Blu-ray DVD recorders in Japan on November 15, heating up a format battle for next generation DVD technologies. The Panasonic brand maker, which promotes the Blu-ray format in competition with the HD DVD standard led by Toshiba Corp., said it expected the two types of recorders to retail at about 240,000 yen ($2,045) and 300,000 yen ($2,556).

 US magazine Newsweek reports that Google is talking to Apple about supplying video clips for the player. The iTV device lets users watch video content stored on their desktop PC on their home TVs.

New upgrades of the popular portable players offer lower prices, high capacities, and color cases for Nanos.
