“Rock Band,” “Guitar Hero” drive digital song sales

Reuters reports here at Yahoo News: DENVER - In the two months since MTV Networks and Harmonix released the music-based videogame “Rock Band,” players have purchased and downloaded more than 2.5 million additional songs made available after the game’s initial distribution. Activision, meanwhile, said it has sold more than 5 million new songs via download for “Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock” since it began adding downloadable content in early November.

Nintendo tops video game sales in 2007

AP reports here at Yahoo News: NEW YORK - Fueled by the success of Nintendo Co.’s Wii and Microsoft’s “Halo 3,” more video games were sold in the U.S. in 2007 than in any other year, with retail sales hitting $17.94 billion, according to the NPD Group.
