  • 200 Mbps bandwidth for high-quality video streaming.
  • Built-in Quality of Service (QoS) for optimal gaming performance, and uninterrupted VoIP calls.
The NETGEAR HDX101 Powerline HD Ethernet Adapter turns any electrical power outlet into a network connection. If you're looking for a fast, easy way to provide Ethernet connectivity to just about any device in your home, then this handy adapter is an excellent solution. The HDX101 gives you the bandwidth you need for high-quality video streaming, gaming, and VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), without the headaches of running expensive Ethernet cables all over your home.

Creating a network connection is as easy as plugging the adapter into the wall. View larger.
With simple plug-and-play installation, this device turns any electrical outlet into a network connection. This compact, handy device delivers up to 200 Mbps to any outlet, and with no software required, you'll be ready to network your home right out of the box.

This is an ideal solution for connecting PCs, game consoles, digital media adapters such as NETGEAR's EVA8000, or a Skype cordless phone such as NETGEAR's SPH200D to your home network. Here's how it works: plug one HDX101 into your router and a nearby electrical socket, then plug a second HDX101 into any electrical socket that is conveniently located near the device you want to network. Each HDX101 has a built-in Quality of Service (QoS) that enables smooth streaming, awesome gaming performance, and uninterrupted VoIP telephone calls. The bottom line is, you get a powerful, seamless home network that runs on your existing wiring.

Please note that this product comes with only one HDX101 adapter. You'll need to buy at least two adapters to start your network, or you can purchase the NETGEAR HDXB101 Powerline HD Ethernet Adapter Kit which comes equipped with two HDX101 adapters.

The Powerline HD Ethernet Adapter makes it a breeze to transfer large files to a network storage device, such as the NETGEAR Storage Central Turbo SC101 or the ReadyNAS NV+ RND4250. It supports up to 16 HDX101 units on one home network; and it easily coexists with a host of NETGEAR's HomePlug compatible products.

System requirements include a device for connection, e.g. an available RJ-45 Ethernet port, and Microsoft Windows Vista, XP or 2000 to modify encryption and settings. Microsoft Vista drivers are available at www.netgear.com/vista.

Note: Although the HDX101 may coexist with HomePlug 1.0 products, it is not compatible or interoperable with NETGEAR's XE104, XEPS103, XE103, XE102, or WGXB102 Powerline products.

In addition, this device can deliver up to 200 Mbps of throughput. The actual data throughput will vary depending on network conditions and environmental factors, such as network traffic volume, building material and construction, and network overhead.

4 out of 5 stars Does its job   November 9, 2008
The product works. However, you will not experience 200 mbs throughput. The throughput is also a function of proximity between the units. Farther away on your existing wiring, the lower the bandwidth. If you need 100 mbs plus to push or stream HD video... the units need to be close. You will be lucky to get 30 mbs at distances approaching 40 feet. A great alternative to wireless though. They are a functional ethernet alternative and very easy to setup.

5 out of 5 stars Netgear HDX101 with Linux   July 19, 2008
I have used this product in my home network with both Windows XP and Linx. This powerline ethernet adapter is plug and play, regadless of the operating system. And, it is very fast. I am currently running three Linux Ubuntu systems on three different floors of my house using one adapter for each computer and one at the firewall. Operation is flawless for more than a year. Can't say enough good about this product. This system replaced my wireless ethernet system which was much slower.

1 out of 5 stars It simply works extremeley slow   July 15, 2008
I wasted my money and the device is sitting on my shelf.
The powerline does not work in my ACER new model loaded with windos vista. I had a service call fromm ATT and they could not do nothing either.
It works when I connect it to DirecTV for "on demand" downloading movies, but it is so slow that it took two days to download a movie. So at least my experience is that I totally wasted my money.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent alternative to wireless networks . . .   March 25, 2008

This NetGear HDX101 Powerline adapter is an excellent alternative to using a wireless network because it requires no configuration. Moreover, you will never get a dropped signal because it uses your homes electrical wiring. Another caveat is it doesn't interfere with your wireless phones like wirless networks do. You simply plug one adapter into an electrical outlet near your router or hub (internet connection). Next you connect this adapter directly to your router or hub with an ethernet cable. Lastly, you connect another adapter to any electrical outlet in your home where you have additional computers; and you plug that adapter to your other computer by an ethernet cable. Do this last step for each additional computer in your home and you are done! Make sure you get the HDX101 Powerline Adapter (up to 200 MB) anything less gives poor performance. I purchased the lower end model (I believe it was 86 MB) and had to return it to the store because web sites froze when I opened more than one web page. The adapters come with auto-encryption of data; this feature is particularly important if you live in an apartment building or if you are a student in a dorm. You don't have to worry about any one eaves dropping or stealing your information. When purchasing for the first time make sure you buy the HDX101B (a set of 2 Adapters) because you need at least 2 adapters to set up a network. You can purchase additional adapters as needed. God bless you in all your endeavors!

4 out of 5 stars Straightforward with one drawback   March 22, 2008
product worked as specified right out of the box. Only drawback, but clearly identified, is the product will not work through a surge strip. I don't like not being protected but it works fine plugged directly into the wall.
