Word of Warning June 24, 2008 This product works fine. Unlike some rechargers I have dealt with, the connection is solid and doesn't become loose with time. My only warning is that be careful that you do not accidentally step on the cord (which is a pretty good length) when you pick up the Kindle. Twice, I have done this and pulled the little wire out of the connection, forcing me to buy two replacements (so far).
Needs a Connector for Charging Spare Batteries April 27, 2008 Although my beloved Kindle holds its charge well, sometimes I discover that I've allowed its battery to lapse when I'm somewhere other than at home.
I now own a spare battery. Problems of the sort I just described are history. But .. to charge the spare it's necessary to remove the Kindle's battery (it has little wires and a miniature connector) and replace it with the uncharged spare. This isn't something one would want to do any more frequently than necessary. If you folks at Kindle read these comments, please consider, on your next rev power adapter, a special connector for charging spare batteries. And while you're at it, how about adding a little pocket on your next rev Kindle cover to hold that battery spare.
The power adapter deserves 5 stars, but I'll withhold that 5th star until the day arrives when I can charge my spare battery without having to remove the back of my Kindle.
Kindle Original AC Adapter April 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Myself you can't go wrong with ordering the original adapter for the Kindle. Yes, there are others out on the market, but for a home AC adapter, this is what I think is best. It's the one that Amazon makes, has a long cord and you know you're getting the right product. Yes, they were on backorder but now they're in. I ordered an two extra to keep on hand for those "just in case" scenes.
Nice charger, but there are alternatives April 4, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I like my Kindle AC charger - it's elegant and compact. Unfortunately at the time I needed a spare charger, it was on indeterminate multi-week backorder.
At that time, I went with the iGo Universal Wall (AC) and Auto (DC) Charger with iGo's Kindle Power Tip. That is working well.
The (cheaper) iGo Universal Wall (AC) Charger will also work with the same Kindle Power Tip.
Both of these are larger and less elegant than Amazon's Kindle charger. Now that the Amazon charger is available for immediate ship, these alternatives probably make less sense for normal use. However if you have multiple devices and only want to carry a single charger, the iGo chargers could still be useful.
WARNING - UNAVAILABLE April 3, 2008 3 out of 12 found this review helpful
Don't expect to get a new power supply from Amazon. You won't even get a rational response from customer service in response to inquiries/complaints about the lack of availability of necessary peripherals for a $400 device.
