good performance for awhile, poor warranty service August 26, 2008
Initially the print was way too light. Apparently this is a known problem. As HP will tell you, you simply have to print a few hundred sheets, and the print darkens up. Kinda lame, especially as it uses about 10% of the life of the expensive toner cartridge.
After that, it worked very nicely for quite some, almost a year. Then one day the "paper jam" light came on. I verified there was no jam, and tech support confirmed this with me (on the phone) and said I was covered under the one-year warranty. All fine so far.
Then came the catch: I had to pay a "handling fee" of $57 to get the replacement printer. Mightn't have been so bad if I'd gotten a new toner cartridge out of the deal, but no. Pretty lame warranty, costing me about 25% of the price I initially paid (after rebate). Oh well, so much for "the HP way".
HP printers used to be wonderful August 4, 2008 I own 6 HP laserjet printers. I have had HP printers since 1984. I will not purchase HP printers in the future because their technical support is so bad. My last experience with HP nonsupport wasted an hour and ended with them trying to sell me a new printer. I was able to solve my problem by purchasing a parallel connector PCI card from amazon. The experience still cost me $49 plus tax even though HP did not solve my problem.
If you want an UNRELIABLE, TIME DRAIN, look no further - July 14, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
During the first year, I have spent alot of time on the phone with HP support. This printer is really unreliable, even when it was new - sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't... Breaks down more often after the 1 year warranty period but it costs $50 to even talk to tech support.
Total waste of time and money - will never, ever buy an HP product again. If anybody has a good recommendation for a home-business printer, please let me know!
Beware! It breaks down suddenly. What happened to HP? June 14, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had perhaps five HP printers, deskjets over the years. I moved up from a 1300 for the duplex option and quicker printing. It worked fine for a year. Then it stopped. The jam light and other lights blink or stay on constantly even where no paper is jammed, new toner is installed, etc. To my shock, searching the net, I found that this is common. It turns out that the "format board" breaks down and must be replaced. I've taken mine to a downtown repairshop for an estimate and may or may not have it fixed, depending on the price. I'm so disappointed with HP. Sadly, I don't like the other printers, in part, perhaps pitifully because of visuals. The Brothers, Lexmarxs, etc. are rather ugly. Thus, I may ultimately move up to the next level of HP printer. Supposedly the 2015 is cheaply made and the 3005 (I think that's the title) is better. Very disappointed.
