4 out of 5 stars Delivers as promised   September 14, 2008

Be very clear about this- it is designed to enhance/replace your TV's speakers. It is not a 'virtual' surround bar or a 'surround' system. For me it was perfect. I am trying to keep my room simple. I have the plasma mounted on the wall above the TV. All the components are in the basement controlled via the Next Generation remote extender. I don't want speakers/wires all over the room. But in a big room, the speakers on my TV were terrible. People sounded like they were talking inside a cardboard box. Dialog was tough to hear. I needed something to fix that and this works perfectly.

The sound is good, almost great. It's plenty loud for my room (16 x 20 living room that opens up to a dining room and 2 story vaulted ceiling). The hookup is simple- TV audio out (or headphone out) to the speaker. Plug it into the wall. Plug the subwoofer into a power outlet and you're done.

I set mine up on the headphone jack and control the volume through the TV. You can set it up to learn your remote in about 5 minutes and control the speaker bar directly with your remote. Very cool. I programmed mine from 12 feet away and it works fine (some reviews posted problems with the remote- most of them programmed up close and then it wouldn't work). But when I mute the internal speakers on my TV I get annoying "Not Available" screens when I use the volume buttons. When it's plugged into the headphone jack the TV still mutes the internal speakers but I get a visual volume bar on the screen. I like having the visual bar.

The bottom line: it sounds MUCH better than the internal speakers. It does what it says it will do.

The cons:
Expensive for a stereo setup, but the simplicity was what I wanted. I looked at a cheaper sony bar but I would have been running wires through walls and the basement. The wireless sub is a great idea and is what sold me.

There's no equalizer, two little bass and treble knobs would go a long way. You could probably get great sound. My TV has a very nice equalizer- but it only affects the internal speakers. I have no way to adjust the soundbar.

The sub starts to respond in the middle ranges which leads to a heavy vocal experience (ie football games) and I have to turn it down to the point where it's almost useless. Good punch for movies and stuff.

If you want a simple sound bar, this is for you. You can probably go cheaper for a wired sub. Not a whole lot of options as far as setup. The remote learning feature is very cool and easy to use.

5 out of 5 stars Better than I expected   September 12, 2008

I currently have a very nice 5.1 system for my living room. What I didn't have was decent sound for the 32" Philips in my bedroom. I looked at various PC type sound systems trying to determine if that would work using my TV. Then I stumbled upon the Boston Acoustics TVee. It was a little pricy at $399 but when I found it here for $266 I decided to give it a try. I was under no illusion that this was a 5.1 system but speakers to replace the current TV speakers. Well, I was really surprised at the sound quality both from the sound bar and wireless woofer. Between the two I thought the sound was exceptional and well thought out with the wireless sub. I spent the rest of the day laying in bed trying various movies to determine the quality of my purchase and I am, so far, extremely happy with the system. Looks good, sounds good, and now while the main TV is taping two shows, I can go the bedroom to watch a third show without thinking how much I am missing listening to TV sound. I think you will be happy with this purchase. P.S. After reading this, I watch to much TV.

4 out of 5 stars Good Choice - Very pleased with this speaker   August 29, 2008

I am very pleased with the simplicity and performance of this speaker system. It, by far, blows the doors off the factory speakers on the TV. I set it up in a 14' x 17' [Bar] room with little to absord/mute sound (i.e., tile floors, wooden window shutters, and minimal furniture). It perfoms excellently. Setup couldn't be simpler, and the fact that it easily synched with the existing TV remote was awesome. Sound quality is 1st rate. Crisp, clear, and sufficiently loud. The wireless sub-woofer puts out more than enough bass to work in a room twice this size. Did have a problem with the wireless sub-woofer signal interfering with the wireless TV broadcast signal I initially planned to use. Couldn't receive the TV broadcast on any switch setting combination. Forced me to break down and get an actual satellite receiver for the TV - didn't break my heart any, as I now have far better picture & sound quality. The wireless conflict made it much easier to convince my wife that we needed a satellite hook-up in that room - my hope all along! Do experience occasional buzzing when first turning on speaker. Usually disappears by hitting mute on/off once. Annoying, but could be my TV causing the problem.

4 out of 5 stars boston acoustics sound bar   August 16, 2008

Boston Acoustics TVee Model 2 Stereo "sound bar" speaker with wireless woofer SilverI bought the sound bar to go in my living room with it being hooked up to my Philips 37 inch lcd tv. I have dish so in order to hook up the sound bar ,i had to buy a a/b swich since my tv had no out-put connection.(had 3 in-puts)After hooking it up.The reviews i read were right on. Its not the best but for my needs it does the job. I get a strong sound with deep bass and the best is not a lot of wires. For the price i paid i am happy. jose

4 out of 5 stars Perfect for Rooms Where you Don't Want Clutter   August 3, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

The Boston Acoustics TVee Speaker System is perfect for rooms where you don't want a lot of speakers cluttering up the room. I installed the main bar below my flat screen TV in the bedroom and the wireless bass under the bed. The result: Excellent sound. Sometimes I can hear the sound coming from the sides of the room so it is bouncing off the walls like it said, giving it almost a suround sound experience when shows are broadcasting in 5.1. It was very easy to set up, but I couldn't get the DirecTV remote to work as the volume control--it would only accept one feature: volume up or down, or mute. I was able to program the television remote to work the volume. Reason I didn't give it a 5: Sometimes the remote isn't quite as responsive to change the volume level, although I was able to get it to accept a signal about 15 ft away. Also, sometimes, for some commercials, there is an echo (even though I have the TV speakers turned off). This is solved when the commercial is over or sometimes when you turn off the TV and turn it back on it seems to be fine. There's only one input for sound, but I have plenty of inputs on my TV, so that's not an issue for me.

I really like this product. It has greatly enhanced the sound quality vrs the small speakers found in most TVs today. I highly recommend it for rooms where you don't want the expense and clutter of a separate home theater sound system.
