4 out of 5 stars Fastest Delivery   September 6, 2008
It only took 2 days to get my Slacker, BUT when I tried to refresh it, nothing. It worked good till I did that. I talked with a Slacker Tech via email. I tried everything he suggested and more and it still wouldn't work. I shipped it back to Slacker, ( I had to pay posted and insurance on it). That was almost 3 weeks ago and still no sign of a new one!:(

3 out of 5 stars slacker falls short   August 31, 2008
to start off i'm a huge fan of slacker radio i love the software and everything. the device is just full of bugs. Its almost impossible to update my playlists with my comp. its slow and unresponsive. the touch strip on the side is cool but starts to get in the way if you have large hands. i would give the device a higher rating because like i said the software radio is great but the device falls short on just a few fronts.

3 out of 5 stars concept-great...device needs a little work   August 26, 2008
I am a early adopter of the slacker portable radio. for the most part it was a good purchase. Slacker is great. Comparable to pandora. Yet with this device you have the ability to save songs (most songs) Very cool.

however...the device itself needs some design work. The thing is bulky. I do like the fact that you can replace the battery. But the thing is just to darn thick. Second, the device sometimes has hick-ups which has resulted in me having to reset it more times than i care to.

If slacker refines the device in future models this portable player has the potential to convert satellite radio listeners among others.

2 out of 5 stars Awesome Service - Unreliable Device   August 15, 2008

I recently returned my second unit as it completely stopped working as did the first. At first I had lots of stability issues including:

- player stops after playing some number of songs and will not restart. it will either just stay blank or show starting up for a few seconds and then going blank again. It will repeat this cycle if it is plugged into USB. It seems pretty random about how long this will last before it works again.

- Player hicups at the start of each song - so, the song starts and within a second or so, it stops and then restarts again. When it does this, it does it with every song but this overall behavior is intermittent.

- I confirmed with Slacker support that I was on the latest firmware build, completely reset the device and so on.

- Then the devices just stopped working. I left the battery out overnight. I tried it plugged in. Nothing. This happened within a few weeks with two different brand new devices.

I love the concept and the service but the player is clearly beta... Other areas for improvement include the USB and dock covers which are useless and fall out. The screen and case are fingerprint magnets and the overall device quality is marginal.

Still I like it enough to try again. I would be a beta tester for a future version.

2 out of 5 stars Novelty has worn off   August 13, 2008

I've had this product (8 gig) since April. Originally I was quite geeked about it, but as time goes on and Slacker hasn't released accessories and has not fixed major bugs in the design, I've lost my enthusiasm. They haven't released a bug fix update since the beginning of May, and I've become tired of the lock ups and difficult user interface, especially now with over 400 songs loaded on it. As well, the depth of their song titles in many of the channels remains very limited and they don't come even close to Pandora in hitting the bullseye of your music tastes. I'd agree with others who say this item is still in the beta phase. Stay away until they stop "slacking" and fix their product.
