Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The CradlePoint CTR500 Cellular Travel Router creates a secure Wi-Fi Hotspot from broadband enabled cellular data modems. The CTR500 is the world's most compact router that is able to support BOTH Express Card and USB-style Cellular Modems. Powered by CradlePoint's WiPipe technology, it supports a wide variety of modems and handsets on the ATT, Verizon, Sprint and Alltel networks and gives users hassle-free Wi-Fi access nearly anywhere. The high-performance router platform supports multiple and concurrent VPN pass-through sessions, plus encryption modes including WPA2 Personal and Enterprise to provide secure client access. Unique built-in auto-failover between broadband sources enables wireless backup applications and maximum uptime. CradlePoint's built-in Setup Wizard provides diskless set up of security settings getting a remote workgroup up and running quickly regardless of OS or device-type on the network. For site selection and placement convenience, the CTR500 also includes a signal strength mode, which enables external LED indication of cellular signal strength.

4 out of 5 stars Share the Love   August 18, 2008
In a word: Awesome!

This device allows one to share your wireless connection and it works like a charm. All you do is plug your modem in and it does the rest.

I have not tested it's range but I'm able to access the connection from anywhere in my home. I read reviews that stated it's range was poor and that was simply not true. I use my wireless as my sole Internet Service Provider (ISP) and had some disconnect issues. Cradlepoint's technology resolved that issue for me. My understanding is that It constantly pings the tower so it reduces the time one gets bumped.

The only thing I observed is that the device seems to get hot. I always have fans running so it is not an issue for me but that may be something to keep in mind.

My final thought is that this a must have device for anyone who has wireless internet service.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointed   August 5, 2008

It goes to local internet alot and the speed of it is a little slow. Sometimes it doesn't register my usb modem and it'll go to the cradlepoint website. I disconnects my usb modem from the router and connect it directly to my laptop and it'll work just fine. I'm a little disappointed in the product.

5 out of 5 stars Best wifi router installation experience   July 2, 2008

I travel quite a bit for work and I got this router to share my Verizon EVDO RevA card between my laptop and UMA VoIP phone. It works great. In less than 10 minutes from opening the box I was up and running.

4 out of 5 stars decent router, works with nokia 3555 and T-Mobile 3G   June 22, 2008

though the support site doesn't mention it works with T-Mobile 3G, it does
on advanced-mobem setting, there's a box where you can put AT command that you can specify which APN you use, then use these commands
AT
AT+CGDCONT=1,IP,"(YOUR APN)"
ATDT*99#
it also works with nokia 3555 and Bandrich 3G card for T-mobile (from stelerawireless.com), you have to have microUSB cable and need to use nokia mode with 3555
this is the best solution to tether data card with other wifi based device (tried LocPlayer on PSP with T-Mobile HSDPA), and works well
however, it has some speed hit when using this router, the speed drops around 30% when going through this router
some newer model express cards and SE phones don't work with this router
a side note: you can modify PSP external battery with compatible DC plug to make it 100% portable, the external battery can provide an hour of continuous streaming
