Amazon.com Product Description
The Linksys CIT400 Dual-Mode Cordless Phone with Skype is part of the iPhone family of products that use the Internet to enhance the way you communicate. The CIT400 is a full-featured cordless phone that provides an easy way to take advantage of Skype Internet calling as well as place calls over your normal phone line (PSTN) from a single device. No PC required! Just sign into your Skype account from the handset, and your contacts and their availability are displayed on your color screen. Advanced DECT cordless technology won't interfere with 802.11 wireless networks.

A user-friendly interface makes Skype-ing easy.

Get total wireless freedom with the Skype handset. View larger.
Dual-Mode capability lets you choose whether to make calls over a standard telephone line or with Skype. Just select who you want to talk to from your contact list on your handset and get ready to talk.

Of course, the handset supports SkypeOut dialing as well as your Skype contact list display. It rings when you have a Skype or SkypeIn or standard telephone call coming in, and shows the caller's ID on the screen. The handset also supports call waiting and Skype's optional voicemail service. When you're on a call, you can hit the mute button for privacy, or use the speakerphone function to let everyone join in. Other features include polyphonic MIDI ringer melodies on the handset and voice encryption for maximum security. You'll also enjoy 120 hours of standby time and six hours talk time on the handset's rechargeable battery.

The Linksys CIT400 also allows you to choose to make calls to other Skype users or over your existing standard telephone line. You'll get the convenience of a cordless phone and all its features, plus the high-quality voice reception integrated right into your Skype handset--no computer is required.

Long Range, Clear Sound, and Minimal Interference
Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication (DECT) technology enables long range, great security, and incredible call clarity. Operating at 1900MHz, the CIT400 uses a different wavelength than the crowded 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequencies used by most cordless phones. So it won't interfere with wireless networks such as 802.11b or 802.11g Wi-Fi.

Easy Setup
The included Quick Start Guide walks you through the easy steps to setup your new dual-mode phone. Skype is already installed on the base station. Plug in the cables and sign into your account.

What is Skype?
Skype is a little piece of software that lets you make free calls to your friends all over the world. With an Internet connection and Skype in use at both ends, you can call anyone, anywhere in the world, for free! And with the optional SkypeOut service, you can make low cost calls to traditional landline or mobile phones worldwide at local rates.

The CIT400 has Skype software embedded in its cordless base station. Plug the integrated Ethernet port into your home network and use Skype without needing to ever turn on your computer.

What's in the Box
Handset, 2 AA NiMH batteries, charger, base station, 2 power adapters, RJ-11 cable, RJ-45 cable, quick installation, and user guide on CD.

4 out of 5 stars Was tempted to give 5 stars   July 5, 2008
I purchased this phone a month ago. I am not going to give the things I like about it because it would be a repeat of all the raves in the 4 and 5 star reviews here. I just learned today how to get it to send my Skypein number to the people I called for their caller id (I was under the impression that Skype caller id wasn't available in the USA). I have used the handset in my camper. That sends the signal though 3 walls of the house and the aluminum camper. I used it while I was in the garden today. Thats 1 wall and 150 feet away from the base. When I ordered the phone I was switching to cable from dsl and I had a lot of modem problems. The phone voicemail worked great when the system was down. I turned off my home phone yesterday and will save about 600 bucks this year (my cell phones are for backup).
I had one problem with the phone. Once it locked in restart (not sure if it was phone or router). I unplugged the unit connected to the router and plugged it back in. No more problems. I would like for the phone to be larger and heavier (more like a regular phone). I would also like to find another handset. I would buy this phone again in a heartbeat. I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Skype phone!   July 2, 2008
Works grrrreat! It feels a little light-weight and cheap, but I haven't had any problems with it. Sounds just like a normal phone when I "Skype-out" to landlines. It would be nice to be able to add another CIT400 handset, but it's looking like Linksys is not going to be making this phone anymore.

4 out of 5 stars Great value! Saves on monthly phone bill!   July 2, 2008
This phone works great. I cut my phone costs considerably. Speakerphone works great also. The handset could be a tad larger. The number of rings before voicemail picks up is set at 3. There is no way to adjust that to more rings. That's about the only thing I could find wrong with it. I recommend buying one and give it 4 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Makes Skype easy to use, fast and reliable   July 2, 2008
Linksys CIT400 Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit with Integrated Skype

This unit is very easy to hook up and use. Makes it so nice to use Skype without having to have your computer on at the same time. Quality is excellent. If you are using your computer to transfer large files of if you have heavy web traffic on your DSL line then the quality will be less.

It offers a huge saving when you use the Skype service for $ 3 a month so you can call ANY PHONE in the US or Canada.

I bought several other units that used Skype via my computer and this is definitely the best unit.

Access to your stored phone numbers, recently dialed calls is very fast and efficient.

Sound quality is very good so that most do not know you are using an internet phone. If you have heavy web traffic on DSL, then it can be like a cell phone call.

4 out of 5 stars Works well (when Skype works well)   July 1, 2008
No matter how good the product, in the end you are limited by Skype's intermittent quality. The handset works very well and the sound quality is great when Skype is working. I use it to call various Skype contacts in the US and Europe. It's nice not to be tied to my computer to make calls. I have not tried using the landline option. From time to time though the handset says that the system is starting up and stays there. The only solution I have found is to remove the batteries and start it up again.
