  OK, but I am a bit surprised September 21, 2008
First of all, I am surprised that it did not come with all the hardware necessary to hook it up. It had the SATA data cable, but did not come with the power cable adapter. Guess what, it isn't really a stock item at most of the retail stores. So, I had to wait another week while I ordered the power cable connector from Amazon (after wasting a day driving to a bunch of retail stores).
Next, I am a bit surprised at how flimsy the door is. I added this unit to a PC in my house that my children (4-7 years) use often for their games. Frankly, I am worried about it. We'll see how it lasts. As for the over all performance of the drive and writer, I give it an "as expected" score. It works. No thrills, it works.
Still, come on, supply the required hardware with the product Lite-On! Or at least let me know that it is not included! Very big pain in the B-hind! Check your PC before you order!

Died after the first two weeks.
It does not died completely. Motherboard can find the drive, but sometimes cannot recognize. Sometimes every thing looks good, but when read a disc, it fails. I was thinking it is because of the disc, but after tried some more discs and tried them in another machine, I am sure it is because of the drive.
When try to write a disc, it keep telling the disc is not writable, please enter a empty disc...

and the burner works like a charm. What more could I ask for?

Have been purchasing from Amazon a long time and this is the first time I remember having a problem. The LiteON DVD (SATA) burner came without instructions, CD or cables. It was a real disappointment.
