and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen
4.3-inch screen

New Features -- Where Am I? Where's My Car?
The nuevi 700 series is the first to answer two common questions: "Where am I?" and "Where?s my car?"

At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, all nuevi 700s automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount.

New Features -- Multi-Destination Routing
This lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about).

A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map.

See Better, See More
The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views.

The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.

First Rate Map Data
All nuevi 700s come preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping.

Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store.

Hands-Free Calling
In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. WIth Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker, you can match your nuevi to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nuevi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log.

Integrated FM Traffic Receiver
TMC traffic service coverage map
Steer clear of traffic with an integrated FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts from TMC Clear Channel about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nuevi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time.

In most areas, TMC Clear Channel traffic broadcasts are continuous ? there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions.

A 3-month subscription to TMC Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network is included with purchase of this device. For more information on subscription fees, coverage in individual cities, and traffic data networks in the United Kingdom and Europe, check the Garmin website.

5 out of 5 stars very happy   October 13, 2008
Very happy with this product. Lots of great features. Bluetooth doesn't work terrific yet but maybe I was in a bad area.

3 out of 5 stars Lousy MP3 player   October 12, 2008
Don't get me wrong. I love this GPS. But the reason I bought the 760 was to get an MP3 player that supports SD cards. I'm tired of lugging around my expensive CD collection and wanted to leave the CD's at home and bring my music along on SD cards. For some unknown reason, MP3 players NEVER support external memory.

All I can say is that I hope Garmin someday pays as much attention to the MP3 player as they did to the GPS, because the MP3 player is crap.

Can you imagine a music player that insists on playing Sgt. Pepper in alphabetical order? Or if you say you want to hear some Beatles, it gives you a list of every song from every Beatle album, in ALPHABETICAL ORDER? The guy who wrote this thing either has a tin ear, or he's some teenager who get's all his music one top-40 song, a buck at a time from iTunes. It's an embarrassment.

And the other thing is that it ONLY supports MP3 format. Naturally, all my music is ripped to WMA, since it's a far superior format. So I downloaded a converter and kicked off a conversion of my entire WMA library to MP3. 8 hour's later it finished, but what previously fit into 1.5 gigabytes would now not fit on an 8G SD card. So I had to reduce the bit rate until I found a rate that produced something I could stand to listen to and also fit into 8G. And then I discovered the lousy MP3 player.

The best thing Garmin could do would be to get MS to port Windows Media Player to the Nuvi. I'd actually pay for the download.

Oh, and by the way, the other thing that made the Nuvi so attractive was the built-in FM transmitter. I don't know why they bothered. It's so low-powered that the sound quality is useless for music.

I'll give them one thing -- they make a great GPS. But I could have got that great GPS for a whole lot less money if I'd known the MP3 player and FM transmitter weren't worth paying extra for.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin Nuvi 750   October 12, 2008
Great product. My first GPS, decided to get one after using my brother's older Garmin Nuvi. Does everything I need and more. Settled on it after reading reviews on dozens of GPS products. Paired easily with my cell phone, address book was right there to use. First use was driving to and from Laughlin NV from Yuma AZ and it worked perfectly. Great price at Amazon.com, the reviews on it were spot on. If you're shopping for one, or want to upgrade, can't go wrong with the item or with Amazon's price. Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars My first GPS device   October 12, 2008
I purchased this Garmin Nuvi 760 GPS beginning of September 08 just before a trip to New Mexico. This is my first GPS device, so like thousands of other buyers, I did struggle to find the right device for my use at the right price. I wanted more than the GPS feature because I wanted to combine the bluetooth phone connection along with the FM transmitter in order to get the sound into the car speakers sound system. I do a lot of conference calls in my car driving to work and thought this might be much more confortable than wearing the ear piece. One more useful feature was also of course the mp3 player since I do not own an ipod !!! I read a lot of reviews concerning the FM transmitter feature which disappointed me and made me think I would never find a working device.
Well, now , let's get to how all these things work.
- GPS : Very good , it did mislead me twice in new mexico in one week, but was not a problem since I knew where I was going !!! Don't know if this is because the map was not updated or if the distances where it made a mistake were too small ( hundred feet , no more ... ). I have not used the GPS function extensively enough to be able to say if it is perfect or not. Overall, it works great enough for a simple user like me.
- MP3 : works great, user interface is pretty nice and very user friendly. only issue, it took me a while before I could setup the device to play the songs in a continuous way. So for few hours , I had to pre select the songs one after the other, it was painful. Now it works great . ( the truth is that I did not take time to read the manual !!! hopefully, you won't do the same mistake ). I am using a 1GB SD card. plenty of songs to listen to.
- Bluetooth : I connected it to a blackberry phone. worked the first time when I did set them up. Now they both devices are in auto detect mode . they recognize each other as soon as I get into the car. takes 5 to 10 seconds though before they connect and you can make a phone call. So do not jump into your car and dial in imediatly. will not work so fast.
- FM transmitter : I finally made it to work !!! yeahhhh !!! honestly, finding the right frequency with your car radio is a challenge. It depends on what receiver you have in your radio. I tried in 2 different cars, and in both car , the frequency you can lock to might be different. When you are successful finding the right frequency, it works great . The sound out of the speakers is great ( I have a good sound system in my car ) , it is very clear and soft. Conference calls are a pleasure. So is the sound when you also play the mp3 songs. ( remember, this is only when you find the right frequency !!! so good luck ). One issue noted though when using bluetooth with this sound system, not from me, but from the other person I get on the phone, is a pretty annoying noise on the line which makes the person talking wanting to hang up .. ( could be good in some cases !! :-) )
One more issue with the FM transmitter is that the "golden" frequency you have finally locked in , will not work all the way to your destination in case of a long trip .... There will be interferences on the way, sometimes , there will be some radio stations emitting at the dame frequency you have chosen and will disturb your reception .... when this happens, it is a pain , because there is no way you can play again at finding a new frequency while driving ... then your mp3 player becomes useless !!! and you better disconnect the FM transmitter if you still want to hear the cute voice coming out of your GPS giving you directions. Well, if you are lucky to have an Auxiliary input into your car radio system, then you do not have to worry about this FM transmitter, you will be in heaven !!! :-) because you can connect the output of your Nuvi directly to your radio.

Overall :
GPS : great for my use
Bluetooth : Works great
MP3 : works great as long as you can get the sound out of your speakers.
FM transmitter : Work well only when you are lucky to get the right frequency. Not all the time.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin 760 nuvi   October 10, 2008
I've been using this for about a month now. It's been an invaluable aid to navigation in that time, as I recently moved to a new area.

The heart of the GPS is its direction finding capability. It gives clear, concise directions, which are also displayed on the map, as well as spoken. The directions have not yet been wrong, although they may not always give you the route that you would normally think to use if you knew the way. The only problem I have seen is that when inputting an address for the GPS to find for you, it tends to undershoot the exact address. It's not a problem, as when I went looking for a specific address, I ended up so close that I could find the store on my own. You can later input the exact location as a favorite and name it so that it doesn't happen again.

Some side features that are useful follow. The distance to the next turn or waypoint is always displayed on the bottom right, and pushing that will bring up more information about your route. Your ETA is displayed in the bottom left (using speed limits for calculation, so stopping at a red or speeding will change the time), pushing on that will give you information about your driving (speed, avg speed, max speed, distance traveled, etc). Finally, it has both an internal memory and an SD card slot for mp3s, locations, etc. I haven't used the bluetooth, so I can't comment on that. The traffic locator I don't find too useful with so little traffic here, but it does tell me when I should expect a problem, and the GPS allows me to detour to avoid.
