Good May 11, 2008 I have installed the demo version on Vista and it seems to run good. We purchased the box software and installed it on a laptop running XP. Seems stable. Thanks.
What's Exclusive? May 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The included WinDVD is not only the last version but its a crippled un-upgradeable SILVER Edition. The first DVD I tried burning from imported files was 2 Hours and 36 minutes into it's estimated 1 hour 58 minutes and reporting only 30% completed when I canceled the burn. I'm hoping the editing software is better than what I've experienced so far
User friendly but a bit unstable with HD May 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased Ulead 11.5 Plus about 1 month ago to edit and create some home videos. My computer system: Vista Home Premium, Quad Core Processor, 4GB RAM, 512MB video card, 500GB hard drive.
When working with HD content, the files I use are often 100MB - 200MB in size. I've noticed that when utilizing files over 100MB in size, the software becomes very unstable, especially when putting in transition effects between clips. I incur crashes every 3-5 minutes which forces me to save after every task.
I have since moved on to Adobe After Effects which has been very stable and extremely powerful, but with a much higher learning curve. Realistically, Ulead and Adobe AE target different consumers at much different price points.
If you are seeking an inexpensive video editor to make short home videos, I'd give this a try. If you are looking to do serious semi-professional video editing, save up your money and buy Adobe AE.
  Great for Multi-Authoring: Web/STD DVD/HighDef ! May 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have now used this product to author for website video, for standard DVD, and for blu-ray players (avchd) using the same edited video file (avchd - standard DVD burner and DVDs for up to 30+ high def minutes!) and this is great! I use a CANON HV20 for video and edit with my COMPAQ laptop via firewire. The blu-ray takes a long long time to render (time for a new laptop?) but the quality is fantastic, of course. You can't beat it for the price ($99) and all the things you can do with it. You do have more control and options with Sony Vegas and DVD architect but it is MUCH more expensive and harder to use. I do a lot of projects for my daughter's HS dance team and this is the tool of choice for 95% of them!
I did have an issue trying to install the box packaged version after I used the downloaded Trial version. Also the Trial version did NOT have the blu-ray capability. I personally would recommend NOT doing the trial and purchase it immediately instead. They have a 30 moneyback if you don't like it PLUS you avoid the potential problems I had.
Almost there, but not really..... An Unexaggerated Review! May 8, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Let me preface this review by saying that I am extremely tech savvy and have an IT background. That said....
I bought the Canon HG10 hard drive HD camcorder a few months back and it came with a version of Corel's Ulead video editing software. I was a little hesitant to buying an HD camcorder due to a lack of software selection that can edit AVCHD format, but it seemed like Corel finally produced a reasonable product that can do this. The software that came with the camera was a "slimmed" down version and the interface seemed pretty decent, so I decided to upgrade to the latest full version (11.5 Plus) to take advantage of all of the features of the software. At first glance the software interface is very attractive and easy to use. Importing video was fast and easy and creating transitions, effects, etc.. was also a cinch. NOW, here's the problem.......
When I create the video with effects, transitions, etc... in the storyboard and go to play the video back in the storyboard or timeline view, the video and audio are VERY choppy and is unbearable to watch. One main purpose of the storyboard/timeline view is to review the video you just spent hours creating to make sure it looks the way you want before rendering the video. Well, if the video/audio is choppy then this feature is useless. So, what is the next logical step? Search and install all updates from Corel's support site to make sure my software is the latest and the greatest. I did that and the results were the same! Next step? Contact Corel Tech Support. First of all, you can't speak with a tech unless you pay for it. I find this to be absurd since I already paid for the software and that should entitle me to some support from a real person. Since I wasn't going to spend money on support, the next option was to email them, which is free. I emailed them explaining my issue and they responded VERY quickly, which was comforting. Problem with that was I received a response from someone who probably started working there "yesterday". His/her answer was to make sure my computer could handle HD editing and that I had all updates installed. Interestingly enough, my email to them stated that I had a DUAL Intel Core 2 Duo processor machine with 4GB of RAM and that I already installed all updates. I guess they don't read your email, they just send out the script that's in front of them. I respond back with a "can you please give me a better answer" response and I get the response back a day later saying that I should uninstall & reinstall the software then apply the updates AGAIN. I responded explaining to them that I followed their instructions for installing the software and all updates the first time and reinstalling was not going to fix the problem. Honestly, I was very upset at this point and just wanted some "real" tech support and a "real" answer as to why the video/audio was so choppy. I then asked them if they had a lab environment in which they could replicate my problem and then threatened to write a poor review of their software if they couldn't give me a reasonable answer. A few days have gone by and they have not answered!
I believe Amazon's policy does not allow opened software to be returned, but I am going to do my best to return it anyway. I absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND this software for HD (AVCHD) editing. The two stars are for the interface being easy and attractive. Other than that the software is useless unless tech support can fix this issue!! Right now it seems they are not willing!
Sony Vegas Pro 8 here I come! It's very expensive, but I downloaded the trial version and all is going well! I've created the same exact "storyboard" in Vegas Pro and the rendering was flawless!! I guess the saying is true..."you get what you pay for"!
If anyone is using Corel's Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 PLUS for HD editing please let me know what your experiences are by commenting on this post. Thanks!!
