swann maxiday/night camera November 17, 2007 Camera worked great color during the day but it is suppose to be beter than the swann buldog according to price and specs for night. It does not preform well at night seems to be to sensitive to any type of background light. The bracket system that came with my camera is not the one in the picture which seems to be a new one from swann, the mounting system I recieved is the old one which needed constant adjustment. I returned the camera
Not in Pro category November 16, 2007 I need to identify the kids that egged my house on Halloween and after. Just received this camera yester day and hooked up right away with PC card. My target distance is about 30 feet away. Day time video is fair, night vision is only better than non-night cameras I'd say, because you can not really see people's face, you can only tell if the person is slim or fat, short or tall, that's all. (I think as a surveillance camera you should be able to present the video in court to identify the person right?) I just ordered a Q-see 48030 today since it's got a 1/3" CCD and 480 TV line. I will let everyone know how that goes.
Wow! October 10, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Oddly enough, the technology is pretty good and it's under 100 bux! If you're like me, you think "Ok, it's a camera. I expect it to show me what's going on." Well, not only does it do it, and do a great job, but it even shows you black and white images at night thanks to it's infrared LEDs. It will NOT show you a license plate at 60', but you'll be able to see anything you want at 30'. I measured it off. You'll be fine up to about 40' but after that it's more like "Yes, that's a blue toyota" instead of "Hey, that's Fred in a blue toyota, license plate number 9999999, and he's eating a sandwich!". I'm not disappointed at all, but I'm ordering the 260.00 Clover HDC518 to see if it's more LEDs provide a better night view. If not, it'll get replaced with another one of these!
EDIT: One more thing, others have complained about the mounting bracket but my bracket was NOT the one shown. Evidently they updated the brackets to a better model. Mine is rock solid (for a camera) and I've had zero trouble with it.
Great camera at a great price September 17, 2007 I use this camera with a 4 camera DVR set-up in a 0 lux environment. Typically I need at least 10 meters of lit area to work with, this camera provides it with no problem. I have used one of these cameras to cover a 30 meter area with great results. The beam pattern is even and covers the entire viewing area, cheaper units have the typical round pattern that doesn't cover the edges. You couldn't do better for the price, plus the additional lens is great!
Go with the Swann Bulldog Camera September 7, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This camera has a good picture but easily gets blown out by too much light. Additionally the stand cannot support the weight of the camera and hood so it constantly needs re-adjusted. Swann makes a nice camera but this one falls short. The camera you want is Swann Bulldog camera, we have 3 of those and this one only has slightly better performance in both night and day conditions, but the stand holds the camera in place (trust me its a big problem on this camera), and they are cheaper.
