Product Description
The super.fi 4 incorporates the same speaker technology and sound signatures used in Ultimate Ears custom personal monitors, featuring detailed bass with crisp and clean mids and highs. In addition, the noise isolating design reduces ambient interference and enhances sound quality. The ultra compact and lightweight aluminum housing makes for a comfortable fit and is perfect for the active, fashion minded consumer.

4 out of 5 stars Amazing   September 8, 2008
When the cat chewed up the earphones that came with my Zune 80GB I was not too sorry. The Zune phones sounded OK, but were annoying because they wouldn't stay put. I used my Sony MDR-V150's for a while, but that was a step backward.

So I decided to take a step up and splurge a bit on Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 4's. The sound is smooth across all frequncies, no booming bass or ice-pick-in-the-ear high frequencies. But with these, I can hear so much more than before. When listening to classical music, not only do I hear the music, but I hear the concert hall as though I was sitting there.

The isolation of background sounds is a bonus. I can keep the volume down a bit and still enjoy my music without interference from TV's or dishwashers or the loudmouth at work who sits in the next cube.

I'm keeping these away from the cat!

2 out of 5 stars Nice, but not for long   August 31, 2008

I'm a club DJ and have always used over-the-ears for work, but in-ear for play.
I bought these about 2-3 months ago.
I had conducted extensive research into "mid-grade," in-ear, ear-bud type earphones. I found that Shure, Ety, and UE were at the top of the review lists.
After careful consideration of sound quality, noise isolation, looks, and durability, I went with the Super.Fi 4

Pros:
They look sharp, and they are the smallest in the UE line-up. I'm not a fan of large earphones (I sometime sleep with them on)
The sound quality is great. After they are "broke-in" they sound superb in the mid and high tones. The lows are lacking.
I know how to set an EQ and how to sound test equipment--point black, if you like any kind of R&B, Hip-Hop, Electronic/Dance music, you'll want something with a little more "thump"
They come with a multitude of earpieces (I prefer the double flange)

Cons:
Now, the reason for the 2-star rating:
The lows suffer--really! I've gotten clearer, punchier, bass response for a $20 pair of Sony buds.
The construction is cheep, wait, I meant CHEAP! The wires are "angle-hair thin" and the connections are thrown together.

THE KICKER: My left side shorted out after three weeks--Three Weeks!
When I contacted the company they were of no help. The "Service Rep" I spoke with treated me very disrespectfully, and didn't seem at all concerned that the "earphones of the stars" went bust inside of a month.
I told them I wanted a refund, and sent them the goods with a receipt. They said no, and then tried to sell me another pair for twice the original price. When I said "hell no," they agreed to send a replacement pair (I had to pay the shipping--are you kidding me?)
All-in-all I would never again buy anything from this company. I don't care how recommended some of their products are.
I'm all-about customer service.

THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU ULESS YOU HAVE A RECORD DEAL!
I don't know why they got into the retail market

2 out of 5 stars Great headphones if you dont like bass whatsoever   August 22, 2008
awesome mids and highs.

Absolutely no bass. I'm nearing 40 years of age, i dont want a pair of bass heavy techno earphones, but these are not even close to being balanced.

I have been through 15 sets of headphones, i have spent $25-$250 and have come to a few conclusions. Most people that review on this site have no freaking clue about sound quality. Their only experience comes from the ipod headphones, therefore the super fi 4's must be the best. Try out some Ultimate ears 5 pro's, or the m-audio ie-30's then you will understand what earphones should sound like.

Sure your going to have to spend $50 - $75 more, but you will get 200% better / realistic sounding earphones.

2 out of 5 stars Probably defective, maybe bad design   July 23, 2008
I gave these headphones a good week's worth of use and the right earphone began cutting in and out. Minor movements of my head or the cord would cause the sound to either work or not work. The left earphone had no issue.

The sound, when working, was good. The bass was a bit weak, but with a bit of EQ was fine. It's probably more flat than weak, but I tend to like a bit of extra bass in my music.

I'm returning them for a refund and will try another brand. I'm disappointed because I heard good things about these. It could just be a bad pair, but I'm not interested in "testing" other pairs out.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic 'phones, great service   June 26, 2008

My 4's sound fantastic (as good as my Sennheiser HD 280 pros, go see the CNET review), block out noise as well as "foamies", (the squishy, yellow foam ear plugs) and are very comfortable.

My first set had a problem with one of the drivers. Within a week Tarah had a brand new set on my doorstep (Thanks, Tarah!). So, on the outside chance yours aren't perfect, they'll fix it fast.

Some have said the cord is too short, but I can put my Zen in my front pocket and still have enough slack to be comfortable.

Bass addicts should look elsewhere. These give an accurate, flat response.
