Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Lightweight and compact, the 2001UT is an excellent travel tripod. Designed for use with compact still or digital cameras or camcorders, the 2001UT offers a 3-way pan head with tilt reference scale and separate locking controls, and features a quick-release mounting plate with retractable video indexing pin. With a folded length of only 19.7", the 2001UT extends to 49", yet weighs a mere 37 ounces with its solid 22mm leg diameter. Added stability from metal center leg braces with separate locking knob assures rigid support, while heavy-duty rubber leg tips keep the 2001UT tripod in place at all times. Quick-release leg locks make setup fast and easy, even while wearing gloves. The gearless "lift n lock" center column, with its large, ribbed locking collar, permits fast height adjustments, while a separate tension/load control can be set for cameras weighing as much as 4 lbs. 6 oz.All UT series tripods feature unique styling and a distinctive champagne finish. Features on all UT series tripods include 3-way pan heads with reference scales, large locking panhandles, quick release platforms, metal center leg braces, tension/load adjustment, quick-release leg locks and heavy-duty rubber leg tips, some with leg spikes, for fast setup and rock solid stability. Every UT series tripod includes a FREE 2nd quick-release mounting plate for a second camera/camcorder.

5 out of 5 stars Solid tripod for a solid price   July 3, 2008
Just so everyone knows where I'm coming from, I'm not a professional. I simply wanted a tripod to hold my camcorder steady while taking videos, especially ones that I want to be in. I don't need anything fancy or any interesting features, and for me this tripod has been great. I've given it plenty of abuse and it hasn't so much as scratched. It compacts down to a fairly small size (which is good since I've been traveling a lot lately), and can still extend fairly high when needed. It expands and contracts with very minimal effort (I literally open the leg clamp and tap it to extend the leg), and when I put it in a given position, it stays put. For an amateur like me, this is really the perfect tripod.

4 out of 5 stars Good Tripod For the Money   April 29, 2008
Solid tripod for the money -- good value -- good product. Not the best but can't be beat for the price I paid.

4 out of 5 stars My first tripod.   February 23, 2008
This is a good "starter" tripod for a new shutterbug. Although this is an inexpensive model.... it works perfectly well. When my skills improve I may get a better quality tripod.

4 out of 5 stars Great value for money   October 5, 2007
This tripod is great value for money- it's relatively compact and lightweight with a handle making it easy to carry, it's quick to put up and put down again, it has a hook to hang weights off to stabilise it (eg when it's windy) and the thing that appeals the most- it extends to a good height. It's also got two bubble levels which are really useful for setting up. My only negative point is that the tripod head/mount is a little plasticy, but for the price, I can't really complain a lot about it. It's helped me get some great shots on my Nikon D80. We also used it successfuly as a video mount at our wedding.

2 out of 5 stars Not high quality.   July 22, 2007

I, just like another reviewer, was going to give this tripod a 5 star rating, until, just like the other reviewer, the stabilizing pin broke! I was very careful, so it must be built poorly.

I was going to send it back after the 4th of July (I needed it for the weekend) and then the extra mounting plate fell off! The quick plate was still attached to my camera when I left, but was gone when I got home. I know I should have taken it off, but that does say something about the mounting plate - that it will fall off randomly!

Now that I only have one plate, I doubt I can send it back to Amazon. I'm pretty disappointed. I managed to put the broken plate together, but who knows how long it will last.

Apart from my problems with the plate, the tripod is pretty good. Wish it had a bubble level, and it really needs a bag. It's awkward carrying around the box with it, and it's weird to carry it by itself. You could always make it a bag.

If anyone has any information about how I could buy an extra plate, please tell me!
