Product Description This exciting new addition to the EOS System combines compact size and affordability with an added dose of features and sophistication. Improving on the previous model, Speedlite 420EX, the new 430EX can now be set into manual flash mode (full power~1/64). Flash compensation can be set on the flash unit, and manual control of the flash zoom head is now possible. Improvements in its circuitry make recycle time 40% faster, and since it is compatible with Canon's wireless E-TTL, it can be used as an affordable "slave unit."

Excellent Flash October 15, 2008 I am using this device on my Cannon Rebel Xti and it works very well. I had no problems setting it up and getting the camera to take great pictures of my kids in doors with my f/1.8 50mm lense.
I'll leave the techincal review to those more able, however for the hobbiest that wants to take excellent pictures of their children, this is a must after a dSLR and a "50mm" lense.
Those wanting a more professional review will need to look for other reviews on this flash.
I highly recomend this for any hobbiest.
Great flash for the price October 14, 2008 I've been needing a flash for a long time and was actually looking into getting the more expensive one but because of someone's review on this site I did a bit more research and decided, especially for the price, that it would be best to start off with this flash. Which I highly recommend others doing. I plan on getting a defuser because I feel the lighting is a bit too harsh for my liking. Then again I am a newbie to flash.
Good for candid photos of family and friends October 12, 2008 This flash works great with both my Canon XTi and XSi cameras and improves my indoor photos of my grandchildren.
So far so good October 9, 2008 Seems like a good unit. Works as expected so far. I cannot complain about it. I am waiting for a diffuser I bought. I hope it doesnt diffuse too much. But that won't be the fault of this flash. Just starting out it will suit me just fine but I know it does not have the same oomph that the 580ex or ex II.
Flash October 6, 2008 Works great. Eats batteries, but so does every other flash. Make sure you use rechargeables.
