Product Description The Gorillapod SLR firmly secures your SLR camera or Compact camcorders to just about anything, anywhere and everywhere. The Gorillapod SLR doesn't require an elevated flat surface for you to take the perfect shot unlike traditional tripods. Habitat - Everywhere
Amazon.com Product Description The Joby GP2-01P Gorillapod makes taking digital photos more fun than ever. Designed with self-timer photography in mind, the Gorillapod lets you mount your camera just about anywhere you want so that you can include everyone in your automatic shots. All you need to do is use the universal 1/4-20 screw to attach your camera to the standard tripod mount, then wrap the three flexible segmented legs securely to a nearby tree branch, fence, park bench, or anything else that's convenient. Say goodbye to holding your camera at arm's length to take a photo of yourself and your friends--now you can be free to pose however you like! Durable and innovative, the Gorillapod weighs just 5.8 ounces, or 165 grams, and can support cameras--such as DSLRs--weighing up to 1.75 pounds, or 800 grams. Measuring just 9.8 inches in length, the Gorillapod fits easily into a purse, backpack, or even a roomy jacket pocket.

A good different Tripod September 6, 2008 I like it as it does what it said it would do. I tried it on tree branches, outside on rocks and it works fine. The only drawback is the height.
Also with Nikon S600 where it has the screw at the corner, the camera tends to weigh down on one-side and the tripod needs to be adjusted to balance this and you might not get a nice shot because of that.
Could have been a 5 star but ... September 4, 2008 I just don't think this device is good enough for SLR-Zoom. I tried with 40D/grip and a small lens and XT 350D with grip and a small lens (50/1.4), in both cases the tripod legs hold firm with no slippage or bend(much to its credit, those complained about weak legs probably got pirate copies rather than the genuine article?). But the camera VIBRATES and hard to stay steady. 10sec timer helps to wait out the vibe. I think this has to do with the multi-section construction. So maybe the advertized line "for SLR+Zoom" is somewhat an exaggeration, at least for my purpose. But the device itself is otherwise well thought out and fabricated. My copy doesn't have any weak link at all.
Bottom line - great design, well made, just not strong enough for my combo of SLR-Zoom, or even SLR minus the Zoom :) But should be more than strong enough for most of the point-shoot or small camcorder. And the flexibility is an absolute advantage over conventional tripods.
Good stuff!
the pod is cool September 4, 2008 I love the idea of the little green gorillapod. I like the size vs. a standard tripod. It works pretty well, though it is not as stable as I would have hoped. As an alternative to carrying a typical tripod for certain situations it is very cool & worth owning.
Two Happyshutterbugs September 3, 2008 Bought this for my youngest son (a grown man, btw) who finds it great for his use. This makes me very pleased, too, because I also bought one for myself and fully share his attitude. Added a ballhead, which makes it perfect.Light, strong, extremely useful.
Gift September 3, 2008 I bought this item for my sister's b-day. She says it's great, perfect for use in places that are hard to get the right angle with the camera. Likes the ability for it to wrap around odd shaped objects.
