Fans of the deliciously soapy Bravo reality series Work Out may need to be reminded just how fine a personal trainer Jackie Warner is. This disc is that reminder, containing a fast-paced and comprehensive fitness routine that ranks among the very best. Warner is personable as she trains--and she doesn?t stint on doing the moves herself. She's designed the workout in three chunks, upper body, lower body, and core/abs, which can be done separately or combined for a full hour heavy-duty routine. Because there's little rest between moves, the whole workout seems to fly by, but there's no denying its overall intensity. Warner combines tried-and-true moves (crunches, squats) with some new twists (just try to do that "butterfly" crunch and not feel it deeply the next day). And she's upbeat without being perky--though a viewer could be forgiven for grousing when Warner chirps "I could do these all day!" during Sumo squats. She also gives great attention to form, often working with one other trainer so it feels as though the viewer is getting a one-on-one session too. There are modifications for both beginning and advanced exercisers, so there's no excuse not to jump in. The hour will be over before you know it. -- A.T. Hurley

5 out of 5 stars A Great Workout for Major Muscles Groups   October 1, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This is a really excellent workout. Jackie concentrates on the major muscles groups (the "cheat" muscle groups), to give you a good, challenging, time-effective, form-conscious workout. Jackie is an excellent trainer, offering tips and suggestions on how to complete each exercise with perfect form. The fast-paced twenty minute segments are great for those looking to cram in a quick workout. My only complaints are that Jackie tends to neglect some of the less prominent muscle groups, such as the lower back, and the outer/inner thigh area. The inner thigh segment (done by Jessie during the lower body workout) is pretty crappy and ineffective, I would not recommend doing some of the movements in this segment as many might injure themselves (the drop step and the high impact military knee ups are a big no-no). Supplement this routine with a good Pilates workout that concentrates on those minor muscle groups and you have a near perfect strengthening workout!

5 out of 5 stars Love this DVD....   October 1, 2008
Just stared Jackie's DVD a month ago and do it 2x a week and am starting to see results. When I first tried it I couldn't do some of the exercises for as long as she did but now I can. When you first do it you will be very sore the next day but it feels good to know you are working muscles that you normally don't. It's very fast paced and goes by quickly and you will work up a good sweat. Love that each section is just 20 minutes. Jackie says you should do it 3x a week or one section per day. I'm working up to the 3x a week. The abs/core section has one trainer showing you a modified less difficult version and one trainer showing a more advanced version. It's great though cause you can always increase or lower the intensity by increasing or lowering your weights. If you like working out at home this is a great DVD for that. You will get an awesome workout!

4 out of 5 stars Great workout for a great price   September 18, 2008

This is a great workout that combines upper and lower body strength training with abs and cardio. You can choose to do 1, 2, or all 3 of the 20 minute workouts and each of them are really great. Jackie and her staff are entertaining, and the video is great whether you watch her reality show or have never seen it. As a health professional, I brought this dvd into our gym and a lot of the members really like it!

4 out of 5 stars Decent workout   September 17, 2008
This is a great video for beginners, as Jackie does teach you several basic "staples" to have in your lifting collection. Jackie breaks it down into three sections: upper body, lower body, and core. She then goes through several moves with 1 trainer at a time (except for the core portion), commenting on form and other elements of the exercise. The moves are then followed by a brief cardio portion (2 minutes). The cardio ranges from ski bunnies to jumping jacks to jabs.

Overall, its a good video, although I expected more from it. I know on the show, Jackie does say she didn't prepare enough for this video & it definately shows. Still, it is a good beginning video, and I found the abs portion to be pretty challenging.

5 out of 5 stars Great Low Impact Workout   September 13, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I've been using tapes/DVD's for the past 30 years and this is one of the best!! The 1 minute break-ups, low impact cardio (although it is sometimes higher impact someone is always performing a less strenuous rep) make it a GREAT re-intro into the workout world. The 20 minute sections make it possible to do one or all--time and ability being a factor. I've ordered 15 DVD's in the past two weeks and most of them are high impact and totally disregard knee, hip and back problems caused by high impact. Jackie is right on with no time wasted and easy to follow directives. Can't wait to see what she comes out with next. J Lang
