Amazon.com There's a horrible sound we hope you've never heard: the sound of an expensive blade biting into unexpected metal. (The metal always wins.) Zircon's handy metal locator will help you avoid that unpleasant experience by finding metal in surfaces for you. You'll be able to locate metal six inches deep through solid concrete before you cut. You'll know where the pipes and junction boxes sit behind tile before you mangle your expensive drill bit. Zircon's technology automatically differentiates between magnetic and non-magnetic metal, and reports both location and depth on an easy-to-read screen. This ounce of prevention is worth it.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Structural Engineer/Home Inspector July 7, 2004 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have performed structural inspections on over 8,000 homes with concrete slab foundations. I have used very expensive and very inexpensive metal detectors over the years in my effort to determine how slabs are reinforced and to accurately locate the rebar. The Zircon MT-6 is the best instrument for the price that I have found to perform these tasks. All Of my inspectors have used the MT-6 instrument for several years with good success and satisfaction.

On Concrete foundation, the scanner always beep when the find any rock with iron - false reading. Any body guest where the rebar is. However, on CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit) it works a bit better. I do not like the product but if you must have it, make sure check the return policy.
