B & D 18-volt Cordless 12-Inch Grasshog String Trimmer May 17, 2008 I have used it to trim my large yard about 3 times. The two batterys last just long enough for me to finish all my trimming after mowing. I didn't want to drag a cord around and a gas one was more then what I needed. So if you want something to finish up your mowing this is for you. If you plan to do a lot of weedwacking get a corded or gas one. Its length and handle can be adjusted to fit your height. I'm 6' 1" and I can stand up straight using this model at full extension. The downside is the batterys need a long charge so plan to use the batterys only once per day and let them recharge overnight. With only a 2 hour charge they run out of juice very fast.
Very well suited for cleanup and trimming May 16, 2008 This product (like the similar blower from B&D) is not intended for heavy duty work. Instead, both are excellent for lighter duty "clean up" tasks. The unit is much lighter than gas powered, but offers just as much portability. The balance is excellent, with the string head on one end, the battery on the other. Most impressive is the ease with which the head can be rotated 180 degrees, making the unit into an easy to use and effective edger. I'm pleased with the battery life, which is adequate for most trimming tasks. This unit would not be a good fit for mowing or for heavy weeds.
My second one - Terrific! May 15, 2008 I just bought my second one. The first lasted three years. That may not seem long to some people but I have a large lot. The old one still works but the handle is broken. I can still use the extra batteries. I just love this thing. I hate the gas powered ones and I will never go to the trouble with mixing the oil and stuff. I let my husband do that with his weed wacker. I guess we're just a couple of weed wacking nuts. It happens as you age... NOTE: If you do have a large lot like me, purchase extra batteries
Worth the extra money. May 14, 2008 Trimmers have been the bane of my existance ever since I started mowing lawns as a teenager. You either had to drag a cord around the yard with you, getting it tangled, knocking over the bird bath, etc, or you made the horrific investment of a gas powered trimmer, and had to mix oil in with your gas. Always a messy proposition.
Black and Decker finally solved this problem with a lightweight battery that holds enough charge for me to trim around my house, the driveway, and the sidewalks surrounding my third of an acre lot. The unit comes with two batteries, but I've never run out of charge on the first.
I also have never had a bump-type line feeder that has ever worked right. I was sceptical that this trimmer's automatic feed would work any better, but I'm happy to report that it works perfectly. I'm completely satisfied, and would recommend this product to anyone.
The best I've tried May 12, 2008 I have purchased 3 other electric trimmers over the years, and this one is by far the best. It takes me so much less time to trim my yard because I do not have to turn the unit upside down constantly and pull the string out so that it will work. I never thought that I would enjoy weed-eating, but this trimmer makes it so easy that it is a pleasure!
The only reason I took off one star is that the trimmer is a little heavy for me. I weigh 100 pounds, so for someone who is bigger it would probably not be a problem. My yard is small, but my arms were dead after trimming it. However, I am more than willing to accept this since the trimmer does such a great job overall.
