Bright and oh so right... September 21, 2008

Nice Solar units for the price. They come two units in a box.
[] First thing I did was to remove the low 600 mAH 1.2 volt NiMh rechargeable batteries (3 per unit) and installed 3 Tenergy 2600 mAH NiMh batteries Card Tenergy Nimh AA 2600mAh Rechargeable Batteries 12xAA. That will hold more power during the shorter winter daylight hours.
[] Next I replaced the existing 'square prismatic' lense with a more SOFTER look translucent plastic lense. Cut from a thin plastic counter top piece from a local dollar store, They sell them as a counter top cutting surface of sorts...
[] BE CAREFUL when you open these units, 5 small phillips head screws... inside there is some black silicon splotches holding down small wires. Guaranteed once you open one of these units, a wire will pull off of a connection somewhere inside. I have about 8 of these units and had a wire pull everytime I opened the case to replace the lenses. Keep a soldering iron, solder and flux handy.... you'll need it for sure to re-solder a pulled small wire connection.
[] I have a skylight in my home, and mounted 3 of these units on the ceiling next to the skylight - works great! Skylight charges solar lights all day, and as soon as it get dark the solar lights come ON automatically to light the room below the skylight.
[] Each unit has ONE quite BRIGHT L.E.D. bulb which lowers the drain on the battery unlike some other solar products, but the LED's are really bright, even through the added translucent lense. Makes for a soft glowing light in the room.
[] I also set a couple of these on the interior window sill, during the day the sun charges them, and at night they come ON automatically to shine a soft light in each room to make it safer walking through a (free from the SUN powered light) room. Plus the cat can find her food dish easier... >^oo^<
[] Can't say enough good things about these lights. They shine bright and don't seem to dim at all during a long nights shining, especially with the (3) 2600 mAH batteries inside.
[] You have a fairly strong plastic bracket that gets screwed (two holes) to the wall, then the light unit hangs from the bracket by sliding down into two slots on the bracket and back of solar unit. These units are basically gravity hanging, so they can be just LIFTED off of the bracket and taken easily. Don't get the neighborhood kids mad at you on Halloween or they will walk away with your lights! :-o
Basically enjoy the solar units, they do have a thin veneer of stainless steel that is securely attached over the black plastic fascade. Nice quality lights, just be careful of wires inside unit if you try to open them...
