Why is the sports cap made of plastic and not stainless steel?
Your teeth. Klean Kanteen chose polypropylene #5 because it has no known leaching characteristics and is softer if you hit a bump on the trail. If you'd rather avoid plastic altogether, a stainless steel screw-on lid is available as an accessory. Can I put hot liquids in my Klean Kanteen?
No. Klean Kanteen bottles are single walled and not for use with hot liquids. Warm beverages can be used at personal comfort level. The single-walled construction allows for more volume and the option to put your Kanteen on a flame. Can I put my Kanteen in the freezer?

great product. I have seen a lot more at sporting events for children and adults. Lets get rid of the plastic....

I loved the original stainless version. I needed another bottle and when I saw that Kleen had come out with the "pretty" colored versions I decided to get one of those. Sadly, after only 3-4 weeks of use, my paint is all scratched and chipped. I also must have leaned it up against a magazine when it was sweating because it now has the permanent odd colored stains around it as well. I haven't had this problem with my regular old stainless version.
Bottomline I love the bottle. My water tastes great and I am not worried about BPA. Something just went awry when they decided to paint it!
Beyond Plastic October 6, 2008
I was looking for an alternative to toting around a plastic water bottle and my Klean Kanteen more than meets all of my expectations and needs. I'm now on a mission to get friends and family off of plastic. I'll be giving them as gifts this holiday season.
Need to change caps October 6, 2008
I've purchased the regular silver KK a while back and love them. I thought the new colored ones would be fun to have, too. I don't know if they've changed all their loop caps or just the ones for the colored KK, but they no longer have the grooves around the outside, so when you're trying to get the cap off and the bottle is wet, it's very hard to do. Other than that, I have no complaints and wish more people would consider switching over to save plastic.

this a replacement for one made of the plastic#7. The bottle is light weight and leak proof. My only complaint is the fluid doesn't stay cold for too long. I guess with an insulator it would help.
