Product Description Motorola i760 Phone for Nextel
Amazon.com Product Description This worthy upgrade to the venerable i730 adds a larger display and Nextel's revolutionary Direct Talk technology, which allows you to communicate via walkie-talkie even when the Nextel network is not available. Other features like voice dialing, GPS location technology and a speakerphone make this phone the right tool for getting the job done. Design The i760's clamshell form factor sports a very large, 176 x 220 TFT color display with 262,000 colors. Meanwhile, the outside cover of the handset features a supplementary, 96 x 32, monochrome display that displays time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The speakerphone unit is located on the rear of the phone, while the trademark Direct Connect and menu scrolling functions can be controlled from the side of the phone. The phone's control pad features a five-way button that can control most of the phone's functions, and there's also a 2.5-millimeter headset jack for connecting a hands-free headset. Calling Features The i760's built-in address book can store up to 600 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses. The phone comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones plus a vibrating alert, and more ringtones can be added via download from the Nextel Online service. Custom ringtones in MIDI, WAV or MP3 format can also be used. The i760's voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names, while a built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. And if you have an emergency, the i760's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911. One of the key features of any Nextel phone is support for Nextel's Direct Connect walkie-talkie technology. The i760 fully supports the service, which allows for one-touch conversations with anyone else on a Nextel phone, or with entire groups of Direct Connect users. It's like a having a CB radio with enough range to cover all of North America, Canada and Latin America. With the i760's powerful Direct Talk function you can also communicate in walkie-talkie mode when you're not connected to the network. The system works anywhere, anytime between compatible phones within a range of up to 6 miles (range will vary based on terrain and conditions). Direct Talk provides a reliable back-up communications tool in times of emergency, network outage, or when traveling to remote areas not under Nextel coverage. And last but not least, the i760 features a walkie-talkie private speaker button. This switches from the external speaker to the earpiece for private conversations or to minimize disruptions in quiet environments. Messaging, Internet and Tools The i760 features MMS-based support for mobile-to-mobile or mobile-to-email text, image and audio messaging. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit -- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the i760, as well. Nextel's optional Nextel Online package allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. Nextel Online also features games, ringtones, realtime news and sports updates, virtual address books, and more-- all delivered to your Nextel phone. Also, because the i760 is GPS-enabled, you can use Nextel's location-based safety services like Mobile Locator, which allows you to locate a friend or family member's phone location at anytime, right from your computer. The i760's "Airplane Mode" allows you to turn off your network connection and use programs, games and voice recording while you're in flight. And finally, the i760 ships with a calendar, a voice memo application, a calculator and a time and date clock. Entertainment The i760 is packed with a number of Java applications. TeleNav for audible driving directions is included, as is 1KTV multimedia for news (both require a subscription). Preloaded games include Zuma, Block Breaker and Aces Hold'em. More game downloads are available via the Nextel Online service. Vital Statistics The Motorola i760 weighs 4.7 ounces and measures 3.5 x 1.8 x 1.1 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 165 minutes of digital talk time, and up to 101 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the IDEN 800 frequency. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty. What's in the Box Motorola i760 handset, swivel holster, standard lithium-ion battery, travel charger, user's manual, welcome guide.

Very rugged, only minor complaints December 5, 2007 I've had this phone for 11 months and I really haven't had any problems with it. I've dropped it countless times... once I even left it on the roof of my car, drove off and (luckily!) found it laying on the road... it's banged up but it still works just fine. The display is fairly large and has much better resolution than the i560. The blue lighted buttons are also nice. My only real complaints are that the charger cover does not stay closed anymore, and I find the menus difficult to use. Also, it has no calculator or alarm clock, which I miss. Overall, I would recommend this phone for people who care more about having a phone that is reliable and rugged than about having fancy features.
Junk October 5, 2007 I've had this phone for about 14 months. It worked well for the first nine months or so, but then I started having problems getting a signal, and now it crashes on me all the time, in the middle of calls, and after I finish a call. I am a very light phone user, maybe 1 call every day or two. This phone is junk.
I thought my LG phone was bad August 13, 2007 This is one of the worst and most confusing phones I have ever used. None of the settings can even be FOUND in the book that comes with it. The battery is horrible with charge, and the charger doesn't even stay connected in the bottom of the phone very well. Don't expect this phone to stay on, either. I'll get done typing a nice and long text when it suddenly decides to turn off. It turns back on by itself, but it only needs a slight bump to turn off.
Also, no one gets my complete messages from this phone because it adds extra information and deletes part of the message. Extremely annoying.
I would recommend this phone to NO ONE.

Horrible July 17, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got rid of the bulky i355s at the end of our contract and bought two of these for our account. We had to return the first phone (line1) within days of getting it as it would randomly shut off (crash), and other times the volume would fluctuate on its own. Exchanging it was an ordeal with Sprint - they charged me for the replacement phone and still haven't credited my account after two billing cycles. A few months later and now the second phone (line2) is crashing. I'll make a call and hang up - and it shuts off. Other times it will shut off in the middle of the call. The other night I went to charge it and it said invalid battery - so I took the battery out and put it back in. Then it said "invalid charger." I might go back to the i355, it was rugged, reliable (but large) phone. I guess I'll have to haggle with Motorola about getting this one fixed/replaced.
