Editorial Reviews:

A wimpy remake of an already anemic movie (the 1947 Rita Hayworth vehicle Down to Earth), this glitzy musical from 1980 improbably stars Olivia Newton-John as a heavenly muse sent here to help open a roller-derby disco. Gene Kelly is mixed up in this well-meaning but goofy effort to fuse nostalgia with late-'70s glitter-ball trendiness, and he looks just plain silly. Directed by Robert Greenwald, the film doesn't even work as decent kitsch. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Going Back   November 11, 2008
This movie is a very fun and enjoyable film. It takes me back to when I was younger and watched it and I enjoy it just as much now as I did then. The soundtract is amazing and the songs are fun to get up and dance to.

5 out of 5 stars Xanadu   November 3, 2008
Xanadu is a wonderful 1980 movie combining the older Gene Kelly dance and music era to a time when the skating roller dancing was popular.
the Electric Light Orchestra did a wonderful job on all their music in the movie. Most people are familiar with the songs. The story is about a commercial advertising street billboard artist that feels there is something more for him. He has a dream of redoing an old roller ring to a roller night club and dance bar. Meanwhile, Olivia Newton-John is a nymph that comes to live from a billboard with her 8 sisters and falls in love with this Artist.
They team up with Gene Kelly a older retired dance star and opens the Roller Rink Night Club called Xanadu.

4 out of 5 stars 80's classic   October 30, 2008
If you were a teenager in the early 80's, this is the DVD for you. It was corney when it came out, still corney now, but still very enjoyable. The songs alone are worth the price of the DVD. Olivia of course is great, Gene Kelly is amazing and the roller skating scenes are fun to watch. Now it is a broadway show, so before you go to New York, see this movie.

4 out of 5 stars Blast from the Past   October 19, 2008
What can I say about Xanadu? It's was a hot movie in it's day. I liked the movie because of the theme, the music (love ELO)& the story. It a magical story of Zeus's 9 daughters & a very sexy Michael Beck (whom I loved in "The Warriors")as an artist who paints Album covers on large canvas for promotional purposes. It's not his idea of where he wants to go with his painting & he is struggling with the toll it's taking on his life. Along comes Kira one of Zeus's 9 daughters who are also muses. All the music in the film is from ELO "Electric Light Orchestra" and Olivia Newton-John. It's a fantasy, musical, quirky, hookie movie, but I love it. If your not into all of those things then don't buy it. If you do it's a good movie, nothing special just entertaining. It's so 80's.

1 out of 5 stars So Bad it's just plain Bad   September 12, 2008

Please! Anyone who says that this movie is so bad that it's good is out of their mind. I really like Olivia Newton John, ELO, and certainly Gene Kelly. But just mixing them together doesn't magically make something worth watching. The story was painfully tedious to endure! I recently made the mistake of renting it, due to misplaced nostalgia. Please don't make the same mistake as me.
If you must see it then you should illegally download it; the makers of this move should not be entitled to make another cent off it!
