5 out of 5 stars Amazing   January 6, 2009
This series is truly wonderful. I'm a sucker for a good series and this totally fits the bill. If you are looking for a book that combines love, action and laughter this is the series for you.

2 out of 5 stars I have to agree with Deidre(the 1st review on this page)   January 1, 2009

I recently became interested in the Vampire novel genre after reading Twilight. Since reading it i have read several other vampire series, including this one. Sadly this one is at the bottom of my recommendation list for other to read. The first few books from this series were very promising, which made me read all of them that are released but i was very disappointed afterward. I did not feel as close to the characters as i wanted to, or become attached, at all. They definitely lacked personality, the authors were annoyingly repetitive and i felt as though there were many loose ends in the novels. I found myself asking questions about the story and characters that were given no answers. If you want to read a great story based on vampires, i would look elsewhere before reading House of Night.

5 out of 5 stars Must-Read   January 1, 2009
Betrayed is a must-read for fans of the first House of Night novel. Readers will gulp down this book as Zoey's problems become more complicated and personal, including suspicions of a character she previously trusted; mysterious, vamp-like murders of humans she knows; conflicting emotions for three different guys; as well as the further unraveling of plotlines introduced in the first book. Zoey becomes more assured of herself and her abilities, a strength she'll need when the book takes a dark turn that's both shocking and heart-wrenching. Other characters, particularly Aphrodite, begin to have more dimension as well. Darker and more suspenseful than the first, Betrayed is an intricate, breathtaking tale that not only sustains the addiction created by the first book, but increases it, making it impossible for readers to not want to find out what else will happen to Zoey and the entire House of Night cast.

3 out of 5 stars The plot thickens   December 31, 2008

There are a lot of things about this story that are so very, very cliched. The 'specialness' of the main character, the angst, the drama... but somehow, it seems to work. There's a slight spark of realism (what girl doesn't remember a teenage crush on a much older guy?) that seems to keep it working. And though a lot of the storyline is fairly predictable, it moves along nicely and keeps you interested while you motor through it.

On the flip side, there's not a lot about this book I'm finding remarkable or memorable. It was fun to read, but seems to fade fairly quickly. I think, perhaps, the enjoyment from reading was more in the style of writing than in the plot - perhaps the quirks and flow of the writing were really what was carrying the somewhat tired plot-line. I mean, a flawed but super-special heroine fighting evil is... well, it is terribly over-done. And a few of the characters seem to be there more for the moral lessons than to really enhance the plot.

It left me wanting to read the next in the series, though, so I suppose it was good enough. I'd recommend it to people who liked a lot of the recent main-stream YA supernatural fiction, and for those who disliked Twilight, I can tell you this series is written much, much, much better. And there aren't any sparkly people.

3 out of 5 stars Decent   December 16, 2008
Bought the series after I read the Twilight set. Not quite up to par with that series. But still a decent read. Took me a while to get into them.
