Product Description
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

Excellent!!!...Spellbinding...a must read for all who have encountered a personal tragedy and are left with the great "Why" question. A thought provoking perspective on the personhood ,gender etc of God.Must be read a second time to glean all the literay morsels left by the wayside in your initial reading...Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars Are you kidding!?   December 2, 2008
This book was a healing journey. Sure Young turns things I have imagined about God on it's head - but good grief Charlie Brown - it's fiction. I loved the part when Mac is asking Papa (God the Father) if Macs mess-ups are disappointing to God. My paraphrase - of course not, I'm especially fond of you. I know the beginning and the end. I know it will take 35 times for you to learn this and every time you mess up you are that much closer to getting it. Amen. I invited the author to speak at our family camp this sumer. He's coming. 1 out of 5 stars Grieves me   December 2, 2008
After I started reading and got into the spiritual aspects of the book I had to throw it away! This book does not match up to scripture on so many different levels. It grieves me that it is so popular!!! My prayers are said for the author who seems to be out of touch with who God is.
