Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) is considered one of the most accurate and accessible methods of screening body fat. Muscles, blood vessels and bones are body tissues having a high water content that conduct electricity easily. Body fat is tissue that has little electric conductivity. The monitor sends an extremely weak electrical current through your body to determine the amount of fat tissue. Theweakelectrical current is not felt while operating the Body Fat Analyzer. The monitoris calculated by a formula thatincludes five factors; electric resistance, height, weight, ageandgender. What is visceral fat? Visceral fat is located around the organs. Too much visceral fat is thought to be closely linked to increased level of fat in the bloodstream, which can lead to common conditions such as high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Sedentary life style causes excess visceral fat, and exercise can reduce it quicker than subcutaneous fat (fat located under skin). What is resting metabolism? Resting metabolism is the energy to maintain vital functions and it counts 60 to 70% of total energy consumption. Knowing your resting metabolism can help your dietplan. If you can increase daily activity while keeping food intake at resting metabolism level, you can lose weight. What is skeletal muscle? Skeletal muscle is muscle attached to the bones that is used to move the body. If you do weight loss without exercise, you may lose skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is important to maintain your resting metabolism as well as your functionality. Monitoring skeletal muscle during weight loss is key to avoid weight rebound in the future.

So Far So Good May 16, 2008 I have only used this product for 2 weeks, but so far it has worked very well. I use it for running outdoors and also in the Gym. It tracks my heart rate well. In the gym the treadmills and Cross trainers pick up the signal from the chest strap. It is a good buy for the money. When you first put it on it is a good idea to put a small amount of water on the sensors on the chest strap.
works like it is supposed to May 15, 2008 This is the first monitor I have ever bought. I found it easy to use and have had no problems with is so far - but have only used for about a week. The price was definitely right. Im curious to see if it will last though - as there are many reviewers whose monitor stopped working fairly early on.
Not what I hoped for May 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'll break this down quickly - pros and cons:
Pros:
* The heart rate monitor works with the cardio equipment and the gym and my heart rate pops up on the screen. The watch reads about the same, so it IS accurate. * The battery in the monitor is easy to change. * As a woman I don't need the attaching strap. I just slip the monitor under my bra. * The monitor is comfortable to wear. * The monitor battery lasts a long time. * The watch does everything a stopwatch would do - time, date, stopwatch, split time, etc.
Cons: * The watch arrived with a dead battery so I had to change it before I could even wear it. * The watch battery can only be changed by a jeweler or someone else who really knows what they are doing. If it is not changed by a jeweler, the warranty is void. * The watch EATS batteries like crazy. I don't have the time to get it changed properly every time it dies. After the second time I gave up on the watch and just use the monitor now. * Watch and monitor take the flat lithium batteries that are costly. * The watch mounter does not work on most cardio equipment; it's simply too small. I quickly found it totally useless in the gym.
I went with this brand because I own an Omron scale and pedometer and am very happy with both, but this product disappointed me. Can't they make the watch battery easier to change? In short, there has got to be a better product than this. If I could do it over, I'd buy something else.
Never got it to fit my needs May 5, 2008 I am fairly tech savy, but this one threw me for a loop. I consider this monitor user UNfriendly. I never was able to get to the point where I could monitor my heart rate for more than just a few minutes. I think my monitor was probably defective...it was hard to tell because it seemed much more complicated than it needed to be. I have great praise for Amazon because of the ease of returning this item...a truly great company with excellent customer service.
great for the price May 5, 2008 I bought this product to get a general idea of where my heart rate sits while I am working out. Straight out of the box I was able to strap on the chest strap and get working. The only problem that I have had is when I am at the gym and someone else around me is wearing one the signals will get crossed and the heart rate will fluctuate. This is not a big deal for me as I am trying to get an overall feel for how my heart performs. If you are serious about tracking your heart rate it may be worth the money to buy one that has a protected signal to avoid those fluctuations. But for the money this is an awesome product
