Amazon.com Product Description The Canon Pixma iP4500 is a stylish unit that boasts both a five-color ink system and a 4,608-nozzle print head to deliver wonderfully lifelike color, along with bold, laser-quality text. How does it work? The print head ejects precision droplets as small as one picoliter, resulting in a breathtaking 9600 x 2400 color dot-per-inch (dpi) resolution as well as a truly exceptional level of detail. Remarkably efficient, the iP4500 also will print a borderless 4-by-6-inch photo in only about 21 seconds. And you can store both photo paper and plain paper in the two paper trays at the same time, so you're always ready to print exactly what you need. The user-friendly iP4500 provides lots of options, so you can indulge your creativity. With this system, you get four dye-based inks plus a pigment-based black ink, the option of printing two-sided documents to save paper, and the ability to print right from your infrared-enabled mobile camera phone. Simply capture an image with a PictBridge-ready digital camera or DV camcorder, then connect and print--it's that simple. And to make sure your favorite shots look their best, the built-in automatic image-fixing feature via Easy PhotoPrint EX also helps ensure that each image is as clear and vibrant as possible. Just what I expected May 15, 2008 I got this to replace my Canon I850 which became junk after I started getting the messages about my surplus ink tank being full. However, that printer had performed flawlessly and had bailed me out of my own mistakes time after time. Quality was always excellent.
So, although I did not like the planned obsolescence feature, I went with another Canon. I need high quality photos, as I do the photography for various Senior stage productions. (Boy, are they picky.) I did not need a fax machine or a copier. Just high-quality photos.
I have just had this for a couple of months, but the installation was a snap on an XP with no service packs or updates. The quality again is excellent, and I am very happy with this printer. I haven't had enough experience yet to know about the ink usage, but I wasn't looking for "cheap," just "quality." So far, no complaints.
Software Change May 14, 2008 The software for the ip4500 is not as good as the software for the ip4000. My HP 4850 Scanner cannot comunicate with the ip4500 as it did on the ip4000. The photo printing portion of the software is not as flexible or diversified as th ip4000. The software is general is not as user freindly. The printer otherwise is the same as the ip4000.
Excellent printer, excellent price May 14, 2008 I was looking to move away from all-in-ones and simply having a good quality easy to use printer. I didnt install the software package, instead I only installed basic drivers. I use this primarily for printing photographic cd/dvd covers (Jewelboxing) and basic text. I havent attempted to print high quality or large (8x10) photographs yet. The printing is also extremely fast even on high quality settings for my jewelbox covers.
Replacemnt printer May 12, 2008 I replaced a Canon I850 as it was starting to have print quality problems after many years of good service. The ip4500 is an improvement over all in both picture quality and speed in all printing uses. The only negative is that it's larger than the I850.
Works well May 8, 2008 A little faster than previous canon. Nice ability to pull from paper cartridge under printer and to print double-sided.
