Weighing in at less than 12 ounces and measuring just 11 inches wide, the Pentax DSmobile lets you carry around all you need to scan everything from a business card to an 8.5 by 14 inch document. The scanner draws power from its USB interface so no clunky AC adapter is needed. Bring it along with you and you can instantly transmit a printed page via email, fax, or the web. The scanner has a hardware optical resolution of 300 dpi and the included OCR software automatically converts the document to editable text. The scanner uses a Contact Image Sensor (CIS) to achieve its smaller volume and lighter weight, and also requires less power consumption and lower maintenance than a traditional CCD. The DSmobile has few moving parts, which promotes high reliability and nearly maintenance-free operation. It consumes only 0.2 watt of power in standby mode and a maximum of 2.2 watts of power when scanning.  Scanner not as stellar as reviews October 6, 2008
I purchased Pentax scanners for my employees to submit their commercial building surveys while in the field. This type of scanner is not adequate for 30-40 pages at a time. It should be used for scanning items that are much shorter in length. My employees have been having problems with the scans being light colored and can't seem to get the software to work correctly to make a pdf file that opens at the correct scale on my end. At any rate, it's fine for short scans and technically savvy end-users, but is not a miracle product.

I use this product to scan receipts while I travel. It works flawlessly and fits easily into my computer bag.
Perfect for traveling October 6, 2008
The Pentax DSmobile 600 scanner is perfect for traveling. The scanner packed neatly in my laptop bag. Since it does not have it's own power cord, there was one less cord to pack and untangle. I used it recently when visiting my mother to help her organize her paperwork. I was able to scan birth certificates and other important papers for safe keeping. The only disappointment was scanned pictures are not in color.

This scanner works great with my mac. I also bought the "Yep!" software to scan and manage my PDFs. I've scanned hundreds of pages so far and it works great.

The scanner is a travel scanner and doesn't pretend to be more. If you want high quality picture scans go get a high quality picture scanner. If you want a good, light-weight scanner for documents that is easy to use, then feel confident buying this one.
