A really great addition to your Roadtrip grill July 5, 2007 I really love the accessories we have purchased for our road trip grill. Like the others this item is really well made and HEAVY duty. While I love that about it the clean up is a bit difficult. I wish it had a non-stick finish because clean up while camping and attending festivals out in the woods is not very easy. That is the only reason I did not give this item 5 stars.
Another thing about this grill: It heats up reallly well and HOLDS that heat in it so I can turn the grill off just before the food is cooked and it will continue cooking the items I leave on it. This is great in one way-you can save propane-but be aware that if your items are cooked through you should not leave them there or they will over cook.
good grill May 22, 2007 The grill came with on grill grate and one flat grill for cooking other items. We wanted another grill in case we wanted to grill more meat or vegetables. It's nice to have an extra grill. It's also very easy to clean.
Grill grate a problem May 3, 2007 I bought one of the first out and I found the first few times of use that it performed well. I even took it camping with me in its handy cary bag. after a while the grates became more difficult and then near impossible to clean (esp after barbecued chicken )I also found dumping the greasy water became a problem becaust the base tray that held the water took quite a while to clean up. I have literally stopped using the thing -though I see that they have now come out with porcelinized grates which I would consider purchasing. If I could get a ss base tray I'd spring for the price.
Grate is Great, but MISLABLED August 24, 2006 The Coleman grate performs entirely as one would expect. However, the box is mislabled! It states the unit is STEEL when in fact it is CAST ALUMINUM! This is important because this grate I ordered from Amazon was a REPLACEMENT for one my son left on over high heat too long and it MELTED! The new one is identical to the original including the cast aluminum composition. Otherwise the grate is perfect, if a bit overpriced for what it is. Just be carful not to get it too hot!
Nonstick surface is great when cared for properly June 10, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
These grill grates are very nice, but you have to treat them the same way you treat any piece of non-stick cookware. Rule #1: no metal implements. You have to use nylon or wood implements or you'll scratch the nonstick coating off. Rule #2: use plain sponges or abrasive pads that are non-stick safe only (usually the blue pads). SOS pads and other green pads can scour through metal and will definitely remove the non-stick coating.
After using my Road Trip for about a year, I'm beginning to see flaking of the non-stick coating. They still work great, but take a little more effort to completely clean. I'm probably going to try the cast iron grill grate next.
