Base of LED light also unscrews easily for battery replacement. Baton turns on when you remove rubber washer from base of LED light. It is suggested that you replace rubber washer while baton is stored.The hard plastic housings are durable and specifically designed for this baton; will not be damaged with typical drops on hard surfaces. They may be damaged with extra hard drops on hard surfaces.
