Product Description The Wald 582 sets the standard for ingenuity when it comes to rear baskets. Mounting to the side of almost any rear rack, this nimble basket is the perfect size for packing 1-2 bags of groceries while balancing your load. When not in use, the base of the basket pivots up allowing the side walls to collapse. A simple clamp at the top of the side panels keeps everything secured while the basket is folded up to one inch thick

Good not perfect. July 9, 2008 It took about 10 minutes to install on the bike, but about 1 hour of tinkering to get it perfect so I wouldn't hit my feet on the baskets. The hardware isn't locking hardware so I will have to get a new set. The hinges are garbage. They either don't open or don't close. A few pieces of nylon could have been used to make it not so noisy. Zip ties can only do so much on this design. If there were another set of baskets like this I would recommend those, but there is not.
BUY THIS BASKET! July 6, 2008 I purchased 2 of these baskets but have so far only attached one to my bike. I was glad another reviewer mentioned not centering the basket on your rack to avoid having your heels hit the basket. This makes it harder to attach the bracket designed to help stabalize the lower part of the basket but don't let that little problem scare you. This basket is perfect to use with the popular reusable grocery bags. I tie the handles together to help secure my groceries on the ride home. I knew I'd enjoy saving gas with my grocery baskets but I had no idea how much fun it would be. I've been amazed by how much food I've carried with just one basket. I keep expecting to have problems with balance and the strain of lugging 40lbs of food, but, so far my trips have been pure JOY!
Wald 582 Grocery Baskets July 4, 2008 If you are using these baskets for groceries they work fine. I have a handle bar bag for 1 gallon size milk container, my bananas and tomatoes. The other stuff, beer, wine, coffee, vegetables, other can goods and meat fit nicely in the rear baskets. Weight is not a problem, they are strong. No problem with foot clearance, just make sure you mount them far enough back. I wear a size 43 bike shoe and have more than an inch clearance. Note: The baskets are mounted on my touring bike. They do not rattle empty or full. The price is right.

Mount Them Far Back June 26, 2008 I bought these from a local St. Louis bike shop for a lot more money, but that included installation...and glad of it. I told the installer my concerns over the heel of my shoes banging into these when extended out. He didn't listen & had to re-adjust them back about two inches. That's the only negative. Don't install them "centered" but back about 2 inches on your rack. They don't weigh a heck-of-a-lot. When extended out, they hold a lot and are sturdy. Naturally, they are not rain proof. So check the weather before you pedal off to the store. I would suggest some bungee cords to stretch across the top once your purchase is in the baskets.
Bicycle Rear Rack Grocery Baskets June 18, 2008 These baskets are able to carry so many things. They are a great asset to any urban cyclist.
