C.E.T. Aquadent August 31, 2008 This product really works. It does prevent doggie breath...I noticed a big difference when my dog came back from a trip to my parents and didn't have the Aquadent. It has prevented any further "tartar" development. I read the literature on Xylitol as well. My dog is small, so the dose for him is one TEASPOON, which I put in his first bowl of water. The rest of his water changes are without the Aquadent (as directed on he bottle). The amount of Xylitol in a teaspoon is minute at best. I have also discussed with his vet. My dog has had no problems related to this product.

My vet recommended this to help control plaque and tartar in between cleanings. While it won't take the place of annual dental cleanings for your dog or cat, it does help to keep plaque and gingivitis under control -- making it easier on your pet when that time comes. Recommend because every little bit helps!!
Toxic for pets: Xylitol January 19, 2008 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
In July 2004, ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center issued a xylitol warning. ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center managed about 70 cases involving xylitol-containing products in 2004, more than 170 cases in 2005 and about 114 cases from January to August 2006. Some of the pets died.
According to Dr. Eric Dunayer, veterinarian and toxicologist for the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, dogs ingesting significant amounts of items sweetened with xylitol could develop a fairly sudden drop in blood sugar, resulting in depression, loss of coordination and seizures. "These signs can develop quite rapidly, at times less than 30 minutes after ingestion of the product. Therefore, it is crucial that pet owners seek veterinary treatment immediately."
Please, for the sake of your pets, read labels and disclaimers carefully before administering this medication and refer to aspca.org for further information.
Personally, I will not take this risk.

We put this in our dog's water and it helps immensely. Makes a really big difference, but you HAVE to use it every single day. It totally prevents plaque buildup on his teeth. After a teeth cleaning it used to take only about a month before his teeth began looking dirty (and he does NOT do well to having his teeth brushed), but since we've been using the Aquadent, his teeth look clean and it's been 10 months since his last teeth cleaning. I tasted the stuff just to see what he's drinking, and it's completely tasteless and odorless. Just follow the directions carefully so you don't overdose your dog on the chemicals. By the way, we originally began using the Aquadent when my dog's teeth were already dirty. The Aquadent prevented more plaque buildup, but it did not really make his teeth cleaner. Then, when we had his teeth cleaned, and we continued using the Aquadent, it has totally prevented his teeth from building up plaque. Best to start with a clean slate. Apparently, cats seem to have excellent results getting their teeth clean just by using the Aquadent, as I've heard from several people, but it has worked best for my dog when his teeth were freshly cleaned by the veterinarian. Excellent product to use! UPDATE: When the ASPCA issued the press release on the dangers of Xylitol I made 2 phone calls. First, I called C.E.T. (the makers of Aquadent), who informed me that they had NO plans to change the formulation of the product to eliminate the xylitol. Hmmm. Then I called the ASPCA and spoke to one of their head veterinarians who was very nice and completely thorough. He said that based on the dosage on the bottle, it was safe for dogs. Of course, I'm sure that every dog is different and some are probably more susceptible to xylitol poisoning than others, but he did say that if the directions on the bottle are followed, then the stuff is ok. I'm not too pleased with the blue color. I don't know why it can't be clear. I'm planning to try Triple Pet plaque off, as it does not have any dyes, colors, or sweeteners (xylitol). Hopefully it will continue to help prevent plaque and tartar buildup.

Delivered on time and in good condition. Works for cat gingervitus or however you spell it. Lots cheaper than buying it at the Vet. When added to water the Kittys don't seem to mind. C.E.T. Aquadent was recommended by my vet. and it turned bright red gums to a healthy pink in about a week.
