Good product until my dog ate it July 21, 2008 Only had this for about 3 hours before my dog found it unattended on the coffee table and ate it. But it was crafted very well and the clicker was loud.
very hardy but not good for small dogs June 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had recently heard of clicker training back when my parents brought home a new puppy for their anniversary. I had trained their previous dog and was excited to do the same for the new one so I went out to petsmart to buy a clicker.
They only sold one model, this one. I was a little put off by the sticker price of $5, but decided to purchase it anyway. Training is important and while 5 dollars for an item that is made just to make a noise was a little expensive, I knew it would be worth the investment for the good of the dog after all.
Grabbing a bag of small training tidbit treats I headed home excited to start the training with the young pup. Unfortunately when I got home I was in for a surprise. While the dog liked the training treats the clicker scared him to death! I don't mean he jumped slightly. He would literally run from the room tail tucked and whimpering. Even the temptation of the treats wouldn't bring him back.
I thought he might just be too young, so I put the clicker away for a few months. Each time I tried the clicker over the following year met with the same result. I finally had to stop trying it. It was just too loud to use indoors with a small dog. Even though he is usually fine with other noises ( vacume cleaners, other dogs barking, squeaking toys, alarm clocks, my father's ridiculously loud snoring) He was never able to tolerate this clicker.
Granted it would probably work great outside for agility training with large dogs. (which is why I gave it 2 stars) The very fact that it is so loud it would terrify smaller dogs is a bit ridiculous. And reading the reviews it doesn't seem to be only this dog.
If you are considering ordering this clicker, make sure your pet isn't scared or startled by loud noises before you order this product.
Do not buy the dog bone ones May 23, 2008 I did some reading on the clicker method of training and was so excited to begin with our 10 month old dachshund and 9 year old yellow headed Amazon that I ran out and bought one of those yellow dog bone ones at PetCo. It was a piece of junk; not loud enough to use outside when doing leash training and it could barely be heard over normal house hold conversations. So, I found this one on Amazon and in reading the reviews another person had the same problem with the dog bone ones. So I ordered it and just got it today and it is a wonderful clicker. Fits nicely into your hand, the button is easy to find and it makes a nice loud click that can be heard inside and out over normal conversations yet it is not so loud as to scare our somewhat skittish parrot.
I would recommend this highly.
StarMark Clicker for animal training (dogs) May 9, 2008 I like this clicker better than the iClick....at least so far. It is louder, and, as we have a lively household, I think it is heard better by the dogs over the other noises. However, if you want to be inconspicuous in public, perhaps the quieter one may be better suited... I also wish the clicker came with a stretchy-coil wrist strap already attached so I did not have to go out and purchase separately.
My dogs learned very quickly that a treat follows the "click", and thus are interested in the process.
Works great.. Buy a pack of 3.. May 3, 2008 Fits well in the palm of your hand. Recommend buying a pack of 3 or even more. Never handy when you need it! Also recommend Clicker Training for Obedience: Shaping Top Performance-Positively
