Plastic Failure July 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Cloths line worked reasonably well for the first few months, but then the plastic knob on the left side broke and, apparently, cannot be replaced. The piece is actually a ratcheting lock that keeps the line tensioned. Without it the line will just sag and is useless. As stated above, this part should not be plastic.
I went to the company website "Whitney Design" and there isn't even a link for support or parts; check it out. That's a question I should have asked before paying $55 for this; "Does the company support what they sell?"
I would not buy this product again.
Awesome Retractable Clothesline! June 28, 2008 I love my new retractable clothesline. I am saving money and also the environment. I wasnt able to cement the pole into the ground but used other means to secure it and it works great. I am very happy with the timely delivery and ease of set up. Also love that I can put the clothesline away and take it down just by taking it off the bolts and carry it away.
Overall, OK, but quirky June 23, 2008 This is our second retractable clothesline. Our first met with an untimely end. We purchased this one because it seemed to have all the features of the ill-fated one. The first one Whitney sent to us did not retract properly, so after contacting the company, they promptly sent a replacement. The second one retracts. It is harder to tighten the line one it's locked than on the one we ruined, and some of the heavier or larger items (sheets and towels) tend to slip down the line and not stay where I pin them. Overall, though, it's what we wanted which is something with the capacity to hold a lot of laundry that we can retract when not in use.
Beware!!! Dishonest Company June 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I order two of these clotheslines - one for myself and the other for my daughter. Installed the first without issue. Found the second one badly damaged after opening the box. Reported it to the company and was told a replacement would be shipped immediately "that afternoon" and I would receive a return label for the damaged unit. Called back the following day for the tracking number for my replacement unit; had not been shipped. A couple of days later while looking at the box of the damaged unit, I found shipping labels where the unit had previously been shipped to a customer and returned to the company because of the damage. I then called again for the new tracking number; and was again told it had not been shipped. I then told the service rep that Home and Beyond had knowingly shipping me a damaged unit. I questioned if there were any units in stock and was finally given an honest answer - no. I requested a refund and was told my account would immediately be credited, which it has not. I'm still holding on to the damaged unit until I receive my credit or a new unit.
As far as the clothesline itself, we have yet to use it enough to provide a full review. It does not appear to be as sturdy as a similar clothesline we had several years ago.
Sunline Retractable Clothesline November 5, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have used one of these clotheslines for 11 years, and am about to purchase another for a second home. I have found it to be sturdy, and well worth the money. The line is the standard-sized vinyl-covered clothesline, not the flimsy "portable" or travel-style line. Although the line no longer tightens with the one-hand knob, I can use both knobs together and tighten it just fine. Aside from this, the only problem I have ever had is that one of the lines broke from chafing against the aluminum bar housing -- that was easily repaired by shortening each of the lines a little and re-tying the knots. Except for hanging it and installing the hook at the opposite end of your drying yard, this comes assembled and ready to use. Highly recommended -- it will last a long time if you don't abuse it.
