Very Disappointed - They Leak! September 5, 2008 We invested just over $200 in a dozen bumGenius 3.0 diapers a couple of weeks ago for my 27 month old son and 11 month old daughter. I loved them at first, but by the end of the very first week, we had the waterproofing completely fail on three of the diapers. While my son was wearing them, and less than an hour after I'd put them on him, he was absolutely soaked as though he had no diaper on at all. The leaking wasn't coming out the sides, but through the fabric cover! I was shocked with the first one, but by the third one, I was mad. Not only did it upset him (he actually had pee dripping from his shorts while we stood in line to pay at a grocery store!), but I had to wash bedding and a soaked carseat the two other times. I did contact Cotton Babies, where I purchased them, and they told me I must have used the wrong detergent. I had followed, very strictly, all washing instructions including using a detergent as recommended on their website. What I apparently didn't do right, was buy the Military version of this product! I wonder how many people have that option available to them? Anyway, I tried yesterday to restore the waterproofing in the way that Cotton Babies recommended, but then drove to 5 different stores (including Whole Foods, Henry's and our local Co-op) and could not find even one of the other recommended detergents. So now what do I do? I have $200 worth of diapers that I cannot use!
At least knock a few bucks off for an older version. August 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had the 3.0 in my wishlist, and when g-ma ordered some for baby, this is what she got. I believe they ARE the 3.0s, but are probably backstock from before they started putting in the infant sized insert. Why they don't just say THAT on the description I don't know. If they want to sell them to get rid of the stock without that extra insert, they could knock a few bucks off them. I usually use them for nighttimes with my baby anyway, so I don't mind the bulk of the full sized insert.
the diaper is great, the way amazon is selling them annoys me enough to knock them all the way down to 2 stars. You can get them direct from this seller for the same price with an extra insert.
love these August 13, 2008 i thought i was getting a 3.0 but it is a 2.0, still it's great! it made me make the switch to cloth! read my full reviw at themommablog.info
This 2.0 version is missing the newborn insert! August 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I LOVE the Bum Genius 3.0 diapers, so when my friends put these on their baby registry, I didn't hesitate to order them (without reading the full description of what Amazon is selling). To my disappointment, they are described as being the older 2.0 version and only come with the large insert. The 3.0 version (available at many internet cloth diaper retailers for the same price as what Amazon is selling) comes with a newborn insert for free! You may still be able to use the large insert for a newborn, but it will probably be a bit bulky. If you need/want the newborn insert, you'll have to buy it elsewhere -- it's not even sold on Amazon.
Great Diaper! Cute & Comfy Too! July 27, 2008 My son is 7 months old and I just decided to go to Cloth Diapers. After many reviews, I chose Bum Genius and I'm glad I did. He is 20 lbs and 31 inches long and I have him wearing these diapers on the medium size snaps.
He has been wearing them for two weeks now and I have had 2 leaks. Those were my fault because I didn't have the insert completely flat inside the diaper. He has never leaked out of the top and his dirty diapers are very well contained. I notice on hot and humid days, he gets little heat bumps on his lower tummy. I use Baby Powder on these days and it takes care of the problem.
The diapers stay on him well, they are easy to assemble, easy to disassemble to wash and well made. The velcro closures are very snug and I haven't attracted any lint to them yet but I am very careful when washing them to attach all velcro first. I wish they made these in bigger sizes because I have a few older children with bed wetting issues and these would be great!
I have had some staining from Johnson's Diaper Rash Cream and one was slightly stained from BM. I recommend using liners to make cleaning up dirty diapers much, much easier.
These diapers are bulkier than disposables and some of his clothes fit snugger now so keep this in mind when ordering. They are mainly just bulkier in the front and crotch.
Overall, these are great Cloth Diapers and I have already recommended them to friends.
