Not Bad! August 21, 2008 I have to say I was a little weary about trying these, as I am a huge choclate fan and for those who are; you know that there is NO subsitute for the real thing! But these "Live Bright" bars were tasty and didn't have that after taste that usually comes along when eating something of this nature. Yes, I would snack on these instead of my regular Milky Way which has way more colories!
Good taste and good for you August 21, 2008 This is one of those healthy products, so I expected that bland, granola kind of taste. I was wrong! These actually taste good. I can't say if they really are the brain food they claim to be, but they don't taste like a health-food, good-for-you snack. It's not a 3 Musketeers bar, mind you, but it's still tasty.
Not bad.... August 21, 2008 Let me start out by saying if you're getting these through the mail and you live in a warm climate, throw them in the fridge for at least an hour before you try to open one... we found out the hard way. Aside from that messy fact, the Kellogg's Live Bright Dark Chocolate Vanilla bars are pretty good. They may not be as "good for you" as they claim, but these are certainly better for you than your run-of-the-mill candy bar. They're not overly sweet, and they're just the right size for a quick snack. As far as texture and taste goes, I would say they're comparable to a Tootsie Roll made into a candy bar. Not mouth-watering good, but definitely not 'force yourself to finish it' bad either. My only gripe is that I wish they'd give you six in a box instead of only four.
Shame on you Kelloggs! August 21, 2008 Like many other customers, Kellogg's "Brain Health Bar" advertisement tricked me into thinking that this product is actually good for you. Now, I'm not getting down on DHA Omega-3--I'm confident that it's a key compound for brain health, and I know that Omega-3's in general are very important. However, as other reviews have noted, this 150 calorie (!) bar is packed with high fructose corn syrup, palm oil and a ton of preservatives that guarantee high calories and a lot of saturated fat. Obviously Kellogg's has found a way around the laws that govern food health claims and calling this bar a "brain health" bar is probably legal, but if you're concerned about your overall health, you definitely don't want to be consuming these ingredients with scientific track records of contribution to health problems. Plus, they don't even taste good--chalky, like a mediocre energy bar. Sorry, Kellogg's, but I'll look for my DHA Omega-3 in whole foods, which are probably better sources of the Omega-3 and don't drag my overall health down in the process!
Just eat a candy bar August 21, 2008 The first two ingredients on the list: Sugar and partially hydrogenated oil. Need I go on? If so, this bar is also high in sugar, fat and sodium. Yum. I think a candy bar would be better for you - at least snickers and peppermint patties don't pretend to be healthy.
Also candy bars taste better! This is rubbery and tastes totally gross. This bar is sweeter than homemade fudge and still manages to have a horrendous after taste.
Want your Omega 3s? Eat real food! Try an Avocado or sprinkle some freshly ground flax seed on a salad. These bars are gross.
