5 out of 5 stars Great Coffee   July 21, 2008
This is the second Nespresso machine I have purchased. I got one for another home and enjoyed it so much, we purchased this second machine when we came home for the summer. The coffee is a little expensive, but the ease of use and the great flavor is something we've decided to trade for cost. We have saved our 10 cup coffee maker for when there are several guests over, but when I explain this new machine and the great flavor, everyone wants to try it. Each cup only takes a minute, so in less that 10 minutes we can serve four people after dinner. Odering the coffee capsules over the internet is also very easy and they usually arrive the next day!

5 out of 5 stars Rich, Smooth, No-mess Espresso,   July 14, 2008

I love coffee. I appreciate a smooth, rich cup of coffee and especially love espresso. The Nespresso C100 has satisfied my coffee thirst and espresso habit. This was a gift, so it is particularly meaningful to me.

The Nespresso C100 came beautifully wrapped in green with a silver ribbon. It was a medium sized box, and as soon as I had unwrapped it and read the directions briefly, it found its way to my kitchen counter and I had my first cup of extremely lush espresso. The old saying that 'great things come in small packages' is so true. It is small and compact and has a beautiful triangular shape. The titanium grey looks expensive and sleek.

Operating the Nespresso is relatively simple. There is a water reservoir that hold 4 1/2 cups that fits onto the back of the machine. You then turn on the machine, a small sliding on/off switch near the left side of the machine to heat the water. You choose your choice of coffee, which comes in capsules made by Nespresso. You have a choice of twelve differing flavors, all marked clearly in a small case. Lifting the chrome lever, you drop in a capsule, and press down the lever. There are two blinking lights on the front of the machine that blink until the water is hot. 187 degrees hot the directions tell us. You have a choice of a small cup or a large cup, and push the button. The machine stops automatically at a pre-set level. There is no cup warmer, so make sure you run hot water in and out of the cup to give you the best flavor. This was easy, and quick. It takes but a few minutes to brew the most rich, smooth espresso. When you lift the lever to brew shot two, the old capsule is dropped into the waste bin, which seems to hold about 10-12 capsules.

To make lattes while using the Nespresso C100, I used a heat and froth type device that I have. Very easy and and delicious. When I wanted a milk drink I tended to use a Manual Milk Frother to do it. Not perfect, but an easy way to make a latte with this.

The Nespresso C100 come with 12 samples of coffee. I went through a few varieties of capsules. The Nespresso system works on these capsules. You can select from many varieties. Once you have registered your Nespresso, you are a member of the Nespresso family and may order the capsules whenever you want. They are priced at $0.52 a piece.

I prefer the Ristretto. It has a chocolate flavor. It's a well-balanced sharp flavor but not overly acidic. Other flavors are Roma, a Southern Italian Espresso, rich and strong. Livanto, has a caramel and nutty aroma. Arpaggio is dark roasted and pungent.

The Nespresso C-100 is easy to clean and easy to use. It has a great taste and the variety of capsules is extraordinary. There is a large water storage container and it is professional and quick brewing. I look forward to my espresso in the morning, a great way to start the day. My Nespresso came with an attractive three ring binder filled with colorful directions and instructions on how to order the capsules. Nespresso is a class act. I love this machine and highly, highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Fast, easy, excellent.   June 7, 2008
I'm 100% satisfied with this wonderful little machine. It has a very small footprint so it doesn't take up a lot of counter space, it has very design, it's incredibly easy to use and clean, and makes consistently perfect espresso.

Since this is a completely automated machine and you are limited to using the coffee pods sold by Nespresso, this may not be the choice for espresso enthusiast who are willing to invest large amounts of time and money into the craft of making espresso with an authentic manual machine. But for those of us who just want a good cup of espresso and fast and painlessly as possible, the Essenza is a dream come true.

Other's have complained that $.50 is too much to spend on a single espresso, and that may be true if you are only taking into consideration the amount of coffee used. It's true if you buy a $10 - $12 pound of gourmet coffee you'll get a lot more that ~20 cups of espresso, but you'll also be spending a lot more time preparing your coffee and cleaning/maintaining your machine. For me, I'd rather pay $.50 a cup so I can spend my time doing other things. I'd also like to point out that a quality manual espresso machine is going to cost you a lot more than $230. I have friends who are fanatical about their espresso and have spent thousands on proper, coffeehouse-quality espresso machines.

5 out of 5 stars Good espresso for dummies   May 11, 2008
I bought this after a friend of mine served me a cup and it blew my mind. It makes a great tasting, foamy espresso/lungo every single time! It never has burned or bitter flavor.

I bought the milk steamer/frother combo and am glad I bought the combo. The milk frother makes great froth and is very easy to clean as it is virtually a jug that you can clean under running water vs. regular espresso machine's steamer cleaning.

I can see why this may not seem too economical considering the price of the pods, but I can honestly say it's saved me some serious money as I stopped my daily (sometimes twice a day) stop at Starbucks. I love the fact that I can just get up in the morning and make a great cup of espresso - no need to take a shower, get dressed, and drive out to the Starbucks. I also think it tastes better than Starbucks or other specialty stores' coffee.

I did experience some problems at first for about 2 weeks where lungo didn't make lungo amount. I was about to take it back to Williams Sonomas (I bought it there because of their return policy) but somehow it started working fine again. I am a little scared and wonder if it is going to be a problem again in the future, but we will see.

I also noticed a couple of times more than usual amount of coffee grind in my coffee. I don't know if it was my mistake or what but it was weird to see grind floating on top. It only happened a couple of times though. (I drink about 3 cups a day)

I don't think the noise is bad at all.

I also liked the price of C100T but if I were to buy it again, I may consider more expensive model, only because C100 only takes a very short cup. I only have 2 cups that size in my house.

This machine is so easy my 10-year-old can make a great cup!

5 out of 5 stars GOOD BYE STARBUCKS!   May 2, 2008
I've only had my espresso machine for about 3 weeks now and I love it. I work a lot and keep odd hours. I was making up to 2 trips a day to Starbucks. After paying $3.85 a pop for my Venti Mocha for years, and being treated rudely by one of the "baristas" at that company on a resent visit, I decided to purchase this espresso maker. I LOVE IT!! It makes my drink taste better then Starbucks ever did. This puppy will pay for itself in about 4 months sense I no longer have to go out for my espresso drink. It's simple to use and easy to keep clean. I'm one happy camper.
