Amazon.com Review
Built with a dual air path, the Hoover SteamVac V2 cleans floors deeply and helps them dry quickly, thanks to its spinning brushes and powerful edge-to-edge suction. A 12-amp machine with an 11-inch cleaning path, the vacuum works on both carpets and upholstery through a combination of floor nozzle suction and hose attachments. Its operation is simple: hot tap water is combined with a cleaning agent, dispersed into carpet or upholstery, and sucked back up into the machine's recovery tank. The SpinScrub system in the floor nozzle features five rotating brushes to agitate carpet fibers and bring ground-in dirt to the surface. If you choose, the brushes can switch off for gentler cleaning and remove for easy maintenance.

Easy to maneuver by their bucket-style handles, the clean water and recovery tanks each hold one gallon of liquid, while the separate detergent tank holds 16 ounces. Fingertip switches control solution release and let you choose between shampooing and simply rinsing. For above-floor cleaning, the vacuum comes with a removable 8-foot onboard trigger hose, stair/upholstery attachment, and two-brush SpinScrub hand tool. Helpful details on this unit include quick-release hooks for the 27-foot power cord, a lint filter, a carrying handle, and a 16-ounce starter bottle of detergent. Though designed primarily for carpets, the SteamVac V2 can be used on bare floors with the separate purchase of a bare floor attachment. Hoover includes a full one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

3 out of 5 stars Does the Job but...   April 26, 2008

I've had this machine since 01/2004. This is the 2nd Hoover, the first being the original model that did not offer spinscrub, auto-rinse, two seperate tanks, and heating. I had absolutely no problems with the first model and upgraded after just three years only because I wanted the new features. This model does a great job with cleaning. It is awkward to carry or manage, especially when you're doing a flight of stairs and the hose won't reach so you have to balance the machine on a step while holding it with your knee. I still don't understand how the hose attachment both cleans and rinses at the same time (I don't think it does).

Here's the "but" part. I've replaced the tank assembly three times because the plastic cracks from around the dispensing nozzles. Each time the replacement assembly cost in the $50.00 range. Now, I'm afraid I need yet another tank assembly replacement because the solution bottle has disengaged from it's spot and there is no way to repair it. This will be another $50.00. I use this machine a couple of times a year myself and another family member uses it in relatively the same time frame while we take turns helping move the other's furniture.
I've been looking to buy another machine from maybe Bissell but not sure as those reviews are gastly - no suction, leaks, etc. I know that if I spring for the new tank assembly I'll get a year out of it before it breaks again. I can't believe that after all these years with this same model they haven't found a way to use a more giving plastic so that it doesn't crack. I'll have to mull it over to decide if I want to take a $300 plunge for a new machine that may or may not work as good or dish out another $50 for a patch job.

1 out of 5 stars Please don't buy this machine   July 20, 2007

I have had Hoovers for years, and finally broke down and replaced my old (but still funtioning) steam cleaner for the latest and greatest. Boy do I wish I had never given away my old one!
The "new" one has now been in the shop for over two months, and the authorized repair shop says they have no idea when the part on order will be in, and can't get any anwers from the Hoover parts department. In my case the air turbine that drives the brushes is shot. Furthermore, the authorized repair shop said their place is full of Hoovers they can't get parts for. No telling when the part will be in, and no telling how far down on the list I am when and if the parts do arrive. I'll never buy a Hoover product again.

I agree with everyone else's review about the plastic cracking on the tank. I cleaned my rugs three times before the plastic turned brittle and cracked. After researching online prices to replace the broken tank it made more sense to toss this one and buy a new one. I bought a Dirt Devil brand cleaner which so far has worked great. I would not recommend this carpet cleaner to anyone!

1 out of 5 stars FILL TANK LEAKS - 4 th TANK   July 4, 2007
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

The plastic tank is designed too thin. The rubber check valve push's on the plastic bottom of the fill tank when it's put on the machine. Hoover knows all about the problem, but it will cut into their profit if they make a stronger tank. This is one product that you have to buy the extended warranty. And ask them to keep those tanks coming.

1 out of 5 stars Quality of Steam Vac   May 22, 2007

The first time that I tried to use the machine, it leaked almost all of the cleaning detergent onto the floor. I got about 24 square feet done and had about 4oz. of cleaner left in the resevoir. After checking very carefully under the tank looking for problems and found none, I continued on with the same results. Needless to say, I was unhappy with the machine and will have to ship it out to a Hoover repair facility and let them take it apart and look for the problem. The machine did clean very good and was not as loud as I had assumed. Except for the leak and the inconvenience, it cleaned very well. Watch out for leaks!!!!!
